Cinema Scene: Little Miss Sunshine Heads to Stage, Field of Dreams Up for Sale

Kellan Lutz and Ashley Greene-Ashley Greene and Kellan Lutz have worked out their salary dispute with Summit Entertainment and will be starring in Breaking Dawn. Apparently they didn’t want to be the next Rachelle LeFevre.

-Jennifer Aniston reportedly asked that her daytime scenes in The Switch be retouched. She gets paid too much to look “rough” like the rest of us.

-I’m never going to be able to get “Super Freak” out of my head now. A musical version of Little Miss Sunshine will debut in February of next year.

-Will a big screen version of Wonder Woman ever get made? If so, TV’s Lynda Carter thinks Sandra Bullock “has in all her characters that needs to be in Wonder Woman.” Well, she’s definitely a fighter.

-If you love baseball, and have a cool $5.4 million lying around, the corn field featured in Field of Dreams could be yours. Neither Kevin Costner nor Ray Liotta is interested.

Little Miss Sunshine DVD Review

Little Miss Sunshine PosterWhen little Olive Hoover becomes eligible to compete in the regional Little Miss Sunshine pageant, her dysfunctional but supportive family decide to help her get there.  Traveling from New Mexico to California in a failing Volkswagen bus, the family, despite an utter distaste for one another, must find a way to inhabit shared space for two straight days and face a slew of problems, both physical and psychological, along the way.  Little Miss Sunshine is a superbly written dark comedy that closely examines contemporary American family values and the growing dichotomy between what constitutes success and failure.

Little Miss Sunshine is written by Michael Arndt, directed by Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris, and stars Abigail Breslin, Greg Kinnear, Toni Collette, Steve Carell, Paul Dano, and Alan Arkin.  Rated R.

Be sure to check out FilmCrunch’s Little Miss Sunshine Video Review. The DVD release brings along plenty of features to supplement the Oscar-nominated film:

  • Both widescreen and fullscreen viewing options
  • Two commentaries, one with directors Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris, another with the directors and screenwriter Michael Arndt
  • Four alternate endings with optional director commentary.
  • Music video featuring music by Denver-based indie rock band DeVotchKa
  • Soundtrack spot.

We all want to be liked.  And it feels even better when those you are competing against are doing the liking.  So while winning an Academy Award may get you noticed, winning a SAG award gets you respect

Who cares if a screenwriter votes for you?  And what does a People’s Choice Award really mean?  The Screen Actors Guild Awards is the only show where Film and TV actors are applauded by their peers.

So who was voted Homecoming King and Queen by their classmates this year?  For more on the winners and the coverage, read on!

2007 Academy Award Nominations

Academy Awards Somewhere out there director Bill Condon is trying to wake up from a very bad dream…

Just less than 24 hours ago, I was just telling my cohort Neil Estep that Dreamgirls would be nominated for Best Picture.  Thankfully, no money was involved.  Apparently what I should have said was, “Given that the film won the Golden Globe for Best Comedy/Musical, I think it will probably earn the most nominations this year—but not be nominated for Best Picture.”  My theory?  The voters were so Dreamgirled-out by the time they got to that part of the ballot…

The biggest shocker of the day?  Probably.  But there were plenty others.  And may I saw how excited I am!  Here are some of the more notable additions/omissions from this morning:

  • We have one less Leo DiCaprio nomination in the Best Actor Category (in Blood Diamond, out The Departed) making room for Ryan Gosling in Half Nelson.  Woo hoo!  Is it weird that I’m excited about this nomination…even though I’ve never seen the movie?  But I’ve heard so much about it and have been waiting anxiously for the DVD to come out on on Feb. 13th.  I just love it when underdogs are recognized.  Could this be a surprise win ala Hilary Swank (Boys Don’t Cry) or Adrian Brody (The Pianist)?
