First Reports of MacBook Pro Shipping

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, PC / Laptop

MacBook Pro Shipping

Oh, happy day. A few members of Apple’s discussion forum are reporting that they finally received confirmation that their MacBook Pros have finally shipped. As you can see in the screenshot above, the original MacBook that was ordered was replaced with a new one with a faster processor as Apple has bumped up the processor speed across the MacBook Pro line. Oh, and the reason it says the product shipped on Feb 18 is because these are shipped from China, where it is essentially “tomorrow” already. If anyone gets one in, go ahead and send us a few images.

I ordered mine on Jan. 10. 1.83GHz standard config. My shipping date, for the better part of a month, was always Feb. 15.

Then I receive the news: we’re shipping MacBook Pros and you’ve been upgraded to 2.0GHz! Great!

Oh, and by the way, we’ve bumped your ship date so expect your MacBook Pro on March 7! Cheers, Steve.

Thanks, Apple. What makes me pretty mad is that I called my local Apple Store, and they said they would begin receiving their shipments sometime next week. What does that mean? Not only are others getting their laptops (when they ordered on or after my purchase date), but Apple is shipping MBPros to retail stores (read: PEOPLE WHO HAVE NOT EVEN BOUGHT THE THING YET!).

I called Apple and they refunded $18 in shipping.

Gee, thanks Apple.

Look, here’s the gist. Don’t try to sell me a product and tell me it will ship “in February” when in fact, for some, it ships “in March.”

I’ve since cancelled my order. They don’t need my business.

To yoou, though, I say congrats!

You might have jumped the gun there. My order was originally slated for Feb. 28th, but just today I found it just shipped, will should arrive by the 23rd.

Also, you should probably buy a product based on its technical merits, rather than its ship date. Yes, Apple messed up on this. Yes, they played their usual games. But in the end, even if it really did ship Feb. 28th, it’s still only about 2 weeks from their estimate. And by ‘estimate’ they mean approximately. But not only did they end up making good on their estimate in the end, but gave a free upgrade in the end.

Apples suck.
