Comic Book Jobs: Who’s Hiring? Reed, Marvel and Tokyopop!

Captain America are tough to get, even when the economy is running along smoothly. Now that we’re still in the middle of a deep recession with a large number of folks unemployed for quite some time, it’s even harder. Still, there are a few places for resume senders to send a resume.

Reed Exhibitions, the nemesis of Gareb Shamus, is looking for a Sales Executive for their ReedPop group. No, that isn’t some kind of mid-Western cola, it’s their Comic and Anime division that caters to “fans of comics, anime, movies/tv, video games, action sports, mixed martial arts, food and toys.”

If you think you can achieve sales standards, track industry trends, sell at competitive shows, upsell exhibitors and all that other fun selling-based bureaucratic stuff, this could be your opportunity. Reed has “competitive compensation, a convenient location, and excellent benefits, which includes tuition reimbursement and 401(k) plan.” That convenient location, by the way, is Norwalk, CT which is not a bad little place to live. It’s close to Long Island Sound, has easy train access into New York City and a couple of nice comic book shops in the area.

If you prefer to tackle New York itself, Marvel Entertainment - home of Iron Man, the Avengers, Captain America and Spider-Man - appears to still be looking for an Accounts Payable Analyst.

If you’ve got a BA/BS in Accounting and a couple of years of accounting experience, you could be the person to watch over their balance sheets and income statements for their publishing division.

Tokyopop: They haven’t yet found their Personal Assistant to the CEO yet. You can find all the qualifications and specific duties at the link, but here’s all you need to know: you’ll be “working closely with the CEO to handle administrative, personal, business and creative support in order to maximize the CEO’s time available for executive-level duties” and “this is a demanding position requiring significant overtime on a weekly basis; therefore, only those willing to work hard and fast should apply.”

Viz Media: Following on the heels of massive layoffs, the only “jobs” currently offered by the SF-based manga-and-anime company are internships. But they are looking for five of you college-credit-seekers for part-time gigs in Animation Production, Creative, Editorial, Magazines and Consumer Marketing. And while they may be just internships now, if the company’s new business model succeeds, they may start offering real jobs so it’s always good to have had some experience in the building.

That’s it for now, job seekers. Good luck out there!
