MTV: Behind the Crown

When I hear about shows like this, I long for the days when MTV stuck to videos – not reality. But those days are over, and now Music Television is giving viewers something never-before-seen: Beauty Queens as TV stars. Gack. Led by former Miss USA Tara Conner (who was very nearly stripped of her crown for alcohol abuse), several pageant queens will crew up on the cable channel.
Pageant Place debuted this week, the first in an eight-part series, and follows the lives of Miss Universe, Miss USA and Miss Teen USA winners. They’ll be roommates…kinda like The Real World (which will continue into perpetuity…no matter how sick of it we get). The beautiful girls will live in New York City for one year, with Conner as an “unofficial peer advisor.” Just keep her away from the booze. Donald Trump, who publicly reprimanded Tara but allowed her to keep her crown, will be dropping by Pageant Place to check up on the girls.

- I Love New York 2 (VH1, 9pm): Season premiere. I’m sorry—what exactly do the winners ‘win’ on this show again?
