Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Drama, Games, Kids, Prime Time, Reality, Sci-Fi/Horror, ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, The CW, America’s Next Top Model, Everybody Hates Chris, Ratings,
You gotta give NBC a hand for at least trying something different. Although it did better than last week’s episode of America’s Toughest Jobs, the network’s two-hour debut of Crusoe was third in its hour with the demos. Friday night, once again, totally belonged to CBS.
8pm
- Ghost Whisperer (8.9 million, 2.5/9 in 18-49) was off by a 1/2 million.
- Crusoe (1.6/5) debuted to 7.3 million.
- The first hour of Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?* (5.1 million, 1.4/5) lost 700,000.
- Wife Swap (4.5 million, 1.7/6) picked up 200,000.
- Everybody Hates Chris (1.8 million, 0.7/3) did the same as last week; The Game (1.8 million, 0.8/3) was down a notch.

Despite low premiere numbers last Friday, ABC’s lineup picked up a little steam this week. This improvement, however, was not enough to take down CBS’ strong staples.

- Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? (5.8 million, 1.4/5) did the same as last week.
- Wife Swap (4.3 million, 1.5/6) improved by 1/2 million.
- America’s Toughest Jobs (4 million, 1.2/4) picked up another 600,000.
- Everybody Hates Chris (1.8 million, 0.7/3) slipped by 300,000; The Game (1.9 million, 0.8/3) remained steady.

Friday Ratings: Ex List is No Moonlight
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Drama, Games, Kids, Music, Prime Time, Reality, Sci-Fi/Horror, ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, The CW, America’s Next Top Model, Ratings,
Last Friday, number crunchers had their eyes on two events: the debut of The Ex List and the departure of Friday Night Smackdown. Unfortunately for CBS and CW, the news wasn’t good. Despite CBS’ win in both the demos and viewers, Moonlight started and ended better than Ex‘s premiere. Meanwhile, CW’s comedic lineup only did 1/2 as well as the network’s old wrestling staple.
8pm
- Ghost Whisperer (9.3 million. 2.4/6 in 18-49) rounded up 7% more than last year.
- Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? (5.8 million, 1.3/5) added on 700,000.
- Wife Swap‘s new time slot only drew in 3.8 million (1.3/5).
- America’s Toughest Jobs (3.4 million, 1.0/3) lost 1.2 million.
- Everybody Hates Chris (2.1 million, 0.8/3) and The Game (1.9 million, 0.8/3) were down over 2 million from last week’s Smackdown.

MONDAY (10/6)
- Two and a Half Men (CBS, 9pm): “Alan tries dating two women at the same time.” I remember when Ducky was pining over just Molly Ringwald. He’s all growns up now.
- Prison Break (FOX, 9pm): “Sara learns something disturbing about Michael.” She realizes that if it weren’t for his steely gaze and tattoos, Michael would just be your average white guy.
- I Want to Work for Diddy (VH1, 9pm): Series finale. “The final contestants train with Marcus Buckingham and are interviewed by Diddy.” If they mistakenly admit their loyalty for McCain, Diddy will retreat back under the covers.
- Exiled (MTV, 10:30pm): “A hip hop star’s daughter is sent to the island nation Vanuatu to live in a bug-filled jungle in the shadow of an active volcano.” Had she wasted her youth watching Survivor: Vanuatu, she would have been prepared.

Friday Ratings: Debate Fails to Meet Expectations
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Drama, Games, Kids, Prime Time, Reality, Specials, Sports, ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, The CW, Ratings,
Although there was high interest in Friday night’s debate, the numbers were lower than expected. The political event - still the most-watched program of the night - drew a smaller crowd than the Kerry/Bush meeting in 2004.
8pm
- A repeat of The Mentalist* (7.8 million, 1.9/6 in 18-49) topped the first-run programs in its hour.
- 20/20 (6.6 million, 1.7/6) picked up 900,000 since last week.
- Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? (5.1 million, 1.4/5) slipped by 800,000.
- America’s Toughest Jobs (4.6 million, 1.3/5) added on 1.3 million.
- Friday Night Smackdown (4.2 million, 1.4/5) was down 200,000.

Friday Ratings: CBS and ABC Split Lackluster Evening
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Drama, Games, Kids, Prime Time, Reality, Sci-Fi/Horror, Sports, ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, The CW, Ratings,
This past Friday, the networks didn’t give the viewers much to choose from. (That will, thankfully, change in just a few short weeks.) The tight race ended with an ABC win in the demos and a CBS victory with the viewers.
8pm
- Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? (5.9 million, 1.3/5 in 18-49) plummeted by 1 million.
- America’s Funniest Home Videos* (1.5/6) averaged 5.5 million over two hours.
- Ghost Whisperer* (5.3 million, 1.4/5) shed 400,000.
- Friday Night Smackdown (4.4 million, 1.4/5) was up by 200,000.
- America’s Toughest Jobs (3.3 million, 1.1/4) did about the same as last week.

Friday Ratings: Game Shows Trump ABC

Without a doubt, Charlie Gibson’s exclusive interview with Sarah Palin was the most-watched event on Friday night. Unfortunately, the ALMA Awards wasn’t. That ratings combination allowed FOX to take a win in both categories this weekend.
8pm
- Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? (6.9 million, 1.8/6 in 18-49) slipped by 700,000.
- Ghost Whisperer* (1.5/5) scared up 5.7 million.
- Friday Night Smackdown (4.2 million, 1.3/4) let 500,000 get away.
- The 2008 ALMA Awards (1.0/3) turned in 3.8 million.
- America’s Toughest Jobs (1.1/4) looked weak with 3.4 million.

Despite being a star-studded, newsworthy event, the Stand Up 2 Cancer special wound up falling behind an episode of Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?. Thanks to split coverage between ABC, NBC and CBS, FOX was easily Friday night’s winner in both categories.

- Gossip Girl (CW, 8pm): Season 2 premiere. “Summer in the Hamptons winds down as Serena and Nate carry on a cover-up scheme to make others think they’re dating.” A few choice pics sent to Gossip Girl should do the trick.
