On Gear Live: Samsung S95C: The OLED TV You Can’t Afford (to Ignore!)

Thanksgiving TurkeyThanksgiving Day is all about eating, and what goes perfectly with any meal? Plenty of TV – and all the major networks and cable channels will provide you with a feast this year, even despite the that has changed Primetime TV

NBC promises traditional holiday fare with the annual (a long-standing Turkey Day event). This will be later followed by - the version - which is a movie always worth watching. (I make it a point to watch this flick at least once every holiday season – it’s one of those must-holiday-haves, like .)

Or, you can take a small deviation from long-standing tradition with CBS, which will be showing an alternate Thanksgiving Day parade.  A handful of episodes follow, but don’t worry – football starts at 2:00 pm.  Meanwhile, FOX starts broadcasting their own action at noon with Green Bay and Detroit.

Emmy AwardsThe 59th Annual Emmy Awards has not even started, yet I’m already sensing sensing a weird vibe about tonight’s telecast.  Will the show be a celebration of those young and new (e.g. Heroes)?  Will it be a tribute to those bowing out (James Gandolfini and crew)?  Or will performer Kanye West somehow manage to cast a controversial shadow over the rest of the ceremony?

What a difference a year makes.  Twelve months ago, we were still handing out trophies to stars from Will & Grace and The West Wing (those shows feel so five-years ago now).  Today, we welcome a new crop of nominees including Ugly Betty and 30 Rock for Best ComedyLast year, we were entertained by an always-hilarious Conan O’Brien.  This year, we are threatened by a song and dance number from this year’s host, Ryan Seacrest.  Last August, 24 snagged the award for Best Drama.  This September, it’s not even nominated (yet somehow Boston Legal is).

I think it would be safe to assume the voters would predictably (and respectfully) shower The Sopranos with honors, but I’ll still be crossing my fingers for an upset sometime tonight.  We’ll need something to talk about tomorrow…

Here’s the play-by-play of tonight’s events coming to you from the neglected West Coast!

Top ChefThe Labor Day Weekend was unfortunately not a festive one for a former contestant.  Josie Smith-Malave, the 4th person eliminated last season, claims that she and several of her friends were victims of an anti-gay assault after a birthday celebration earlier this month.

The gals had been partying at Partners Bar in Sea Cliff, NY but were asked to leave when two of the ladies starting ‘dancing together’.  (Seriously…‘Partners’ isn’t the name of a gay bar?)  As they headed out, a large group followed them outside.  From there, the suspects reportedly spat, hurled homophobic insults, threw garbage and started beating on the women.  Josie, who is openly gay, says her straight sister was one of the victims.  Although the ladies were bruised up, no serious injuries were reported.

Police were called to the scene and are still investigating the incident.  Although a few of the accused assailants were still present when officers arrived, no arrests have yet been made.

The current season of Top Chef can still be seen on Wednesdays @ 10pm on .

UPDATE:  Police have since arrested one person related to this incident.  Matthew Walli, 20, has been charged with ‘second-degree robbery as a bias crime’ (he had stolen Smith-Malave’s camera).  More arrests may still come.

Celebrity Fit Club

Now that we’ve said goodbye to June and its 30 days of weddings, trips to the beach, and the slow, crippling realization that it’s still a long, long time until comes back, why don’t we take a few minutes and look back at the best and worst of June reality TV?  Nope, that was a rhetorical question.  Yes, I know, there are lots of reasons not to look back, and yet I’m going to do it anyway.

Oh, and it doesn’t really fit here because it’s not a reality show, but Flight of the Conchords on HBO is pretty hilarious.  I don’t really have enough to say about it to write a full column, obviously, but it’s definitely worth checking out.  Okay, here we go…

My Super Sweet SixteenHaving been so negative for a few weeks, I thought I would take this week to be all about accentuating the positive, being a gigantic cheerleader for summer reality shows.  Like Poison so sagely warned us, though, all of these roses will have a few thorns, but I’ll try to get past them.  Oh, and Poison also taught us that you can unashamedly rhyme the words “tonight” and “all night” (because that’s when they wanted action and satisfaction, respectively).  Here are some of the reality shows I’ve been watching and why you should join me.
