Hey SNL…What Happened to Darrell Hammond?

Today, everyone’s talking about SNL’s new female cast member. She was hired to shake things up a bit, and that she did, by dropping the live on the show’s 35th season premiere. But Jenny Slate’s oops moment was already eclipsed by Lorne Michaels’.

Where the hell is Darrell Hammond on the opening credits, hmm? The last on Hammond came just before the new season premiered; at that time, he was said to still be “in negotiations” with SNL. His presence on Thursday’s Weekend Update seemed to cement his status as a continuing cast member…until he was suddenly missing from the credits and the entirety of the Saturday show. So what gives?

At this time, SNL and NBC are keeping mum. No press has been released to explain away his absence or to settle the matter once and for all. In fact, the network is firmly sticking to a “no comment” line on the casting issue, which seems to hint that there’s something going on behind the scenes.
