Jose Bautista has more than home run swing

Jose BautistaJose Bautista, the reigning Major League home run king, temporarily took the lead in long balls on Saturday afternoon; blasting two line drives over the left field wall off of Tampa Bay Rays ace David Price to bring his total to seven. Neither were majestic shots Toronto Blue Jays fans have come to love in their slugging right fielder, nor were they enough to get a win for the team, but as far as personal accomplishments go, Bautista is certainly making the most of his prime baseball years.

Carlos Gonzalez and Colorado Rockies agree to a dealColorado Rockies outfielder Carlos Gonzalez extends with the team, signing a seven-year deal $80 million deal. The 25-year-old had an excellent 2010 season, leading the National League in batting average (.336) to go along with 34 home runs and 117 runs batted in, which earned him a Silver Slugger award. However, Gonzalez is a complete player and can do spectacular things on the defensive side as well, winning a Gold Glove award this past season. Gonzalez and the recently extended Troy Tulowitzki, who recently signed a ten-year $157.75 million will form a deadly duo in the middle of the Rockies batting order for the next several seasons.

“It’s tough to keep your head into it and put together good at-bats and be into every pitch,” Tulowitzki said after the game. “We were talking about how our legs were hurting out there. It’s tough to stand on your feet for 22 innings and keep moving.”
