Maybe everything would have been different if even one umpire ever noticed that Nick Swisher was hit by a pitch. Twice in the ALCS Swisher was hit without a call, resulting in Yankee baserunners advancing and scoring and, at least in Friday night’s game, it couldn’t be more obvious that Swisher took one for the team. If an umpire sends Swisher to first and keeps the runners where they are, maybe we have a whole different space-time continuum and we’re still watching Game 6 right now.

Carl Crawford possibly moving to the Bronx to join the New York Yankees?

One of the biggest reasons for the Tampa Bay Rays’ emergence as an American League powerhouse has been Carl Crawford. The 1999 second round pick has grown up and become a premier major league left fielder, but when his 2010 season comes to an end, so will his contract and likely his time in St. Petersburg. Crawford will be a free agent this winter and will entertain offers from most of the teams in the league.

Rays Down ChiSox In 10

A waivers addition for the Tampa Bay Rays, Gabe Gross, hit a walk-off solo home run in the bottom of the 10th inning on Sunday, to give the Rays a 4-3 victory over the Chicago White Sox.

“I’ve never really thought about hitting a walk-off. But if I had, it wouldn’t have lived up to this,” said Gross. Gabe went 2-4 with three RBI on the day.

Red Hot A’s Beat White Sox

The Oakland Athletics are in 1st place, 13 games into the season. On Monday the A’s defeated the Chicago White Sox by a score of 2-1 to improve to 8-5, 1st place in the AL West standings. The win for the A’s went to rookie Greg Smith, who made his 2nd career start. He held the Sox to just 1 earned run with 6 hits over 7 innings pitched. After Santiago Casilla and Alan Embree combined to pitch a scoreless 8th inning, Huston Street notched his 4th save of the season. The loss put the White Sox at a 7-5 record, 2nd place in the AL Central division.

White Sox Roll, Drop Tigers to 2-10

Paul Konerko and Joe Crede hit grand slams en route to an 11-0 rout over the struggling Detroit Tigers. Also helping the White Sox to victory were Jermaine Dye and Jim Thome, who knocked in runs.

“Where we’re at makes sense because that’s the way we’ve played,” Tigers manager Jim Leyland said after the game. “It’s not surprising that we’re 2-10. We’ve been shut out four times. ... I didn’t think we’d get shut out four times all year, to be honest with you.”
