Posted by Adrien Griffin Categories: Athletes, MLB,
Jed Lowrie has been receiving some extra playing time with the Red Sox. He’s been given first base duties while Manager Terry Francona tries to figure out what to do with the vacancy created by the injury to Kevin Youkilis. Primarily a shortstop or second baseman, Lowrie has just been doing as he’s told in order to keep his team in the playoff race. The Sox remain a handful of games back of Tampa Bay and New York, but are having difficulty gaining ground.

Josh Beckett’s return bodes well for the Boston Red Sox

With a 2-1 win over Oakland on Monday night, the Boston Red Sox have now won four of their last 12 games. They have fallen behind both the Yankees and the Rays in the AL East and are one more string of losses away from being out of it; considering the level of competition in their division at least. Everything was going fine for Red Sox three-bagger Mike Lowell, but then in a game against Toronto on Friday afternoon, he fouled a pitch off his left knee in his first at bat and was helped off the field with a contusion. X-rays were negative, but for Lowell, who has seen limited playing time, this will only set back his preparation further as he battles for a roster spot. This injury may have to see him put on the disabled list to start the season in order to get more practice in.

Kevin Youkilis Hits Walk-Off to Beat Cards
Posted by Milo Taibi Categories: Athletes, MLB, Scoreboard,

Kevin Youkilis hit home runs in both the 7th and 13th inning, and the Boston Red Sox handed a 5-3 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals.
“I knew I hit it really well and I thought it would get out but you never know here sometimes,” Youkilis said. “You can’t beat it. I think it was even more exciting when you have a 13-inning game. You just want to get out of here. That always makes it a lot better of a home run.”
