Rollins back from injury, may make All-Star lineup
Posted by Adrien Griffin Categories: Athletes, MLB,
Are the Philadelphia Phillies starting to come back around? With a 7-3 record in their last 10 games, the injury-plagued Phillies share the best record with the Mets for the last week and a half. The team also got a shot in the arm when former All-Star Jimmy Rollins rejoined the team on Tuesday in advance of their three-game sweep against the Cleveland Indians. Rollins is a welcome offensive and defensive improvement at shortstop that the Phillies have been lacking this season.

Josh Johnson to stay in Florida
Posted by Adrien Griffin Categories: Athletes, Editorial, Front Office, MLB,
Josh Johnson isn’t going anywhere. The All-Star right-hander will suit up for the Florida Marlins in 2010 after GM Michael Hill told the media that he can say “with certainty” that Johnson will be a Marlin on Opening Day 2010. While the two parties discussed a contract extension without success recently, it seems that Johnson’s immediate future is secure. He is still controllable for the next two seasons, and while Florida tried to restructure towards the postseason, players like Johnson and teammate Hanley Ramirez are the guys to focus on.

NL Rookie of the Year - Chris Coghlan
Posted by Adrien Griffin Categories: Athletes, Editorial, MLB,
Chris Coghlan has achieved something rather unexceptional. He plays for the Florida Marlins and has been chosen as the National League’s 2009 Rookie of the Year. The 24-year-old outfielder is also the third Marlin to win the award in seven years, joining shortstop Hanley Ramirez and lefty starter Dontrelle Willis on the list of top rookies to rise to the top with the Fish, although none of them were originally drafted by Florida. Coghlan was picked by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 18thd round of the 2003 Draft, but did not sign, instead opting to raise his stock. He was ultimately drafted in the first round of the 2006 Draft and signed by Florida.

1st Place Marlins Shut Out Braves
Posted by Milo Taibi Categories: Athletes, MLB, Scoreboard,

The Florida Marlins had everything working Tuesday night. Scott Olsen, Renyel Pinto and Kevin Gregg combined to pitch a shutout, and new Marlin Wes Helms drove in his first run of the year. Olsen would pick up the win, he’s 2-0 this season. Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Jair Jurrjens was the tough luck loser, he threw 6 innings of 4 hit 2 run baseball but still managed to pick up the loss.
“When you give up two runs, you’ve got to win, it’s as simple as that,” Braves manager Bobby Cox said, regarding the fact that Jurrjens lost tonight as a result of no run support from the Braves offense.
