Florida Reels In Veteran Southpaw Hendrickson
The Florida Marlins made a nice addition to their club today by signing lefty Mark Hendrickson. Last year Hendrickson was a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers, going 4-8 with a 5.21 ERA. Over the course of his career Hendrickson has compiled a 43-55 record with 844 innings pitched.
Hendrickson is perhaps best known as being of one of ten all time athletes to play in both the NBA and MLB. Hendrickson’s basketball career lasted 4 years, playing for the Philadlephia 76’ers, the Sacramento Kings, the New Jersey Nets and the Cleveland Cavaliers.
“Mark gives us another quality left-handed arm in our rotation, and his experience and veteran leadership should benefit our clubhouse,” Marlins manager Fredi Gonzalez said.
This is a solid addition for the Marlins. Florida may start the year with two lefties, Andrew Miller and Scott Olsen, in the starting rotation, and Hendrickson is a solid lefty veteran who can help teach them aspects of the game. Perhaps the Marlins can have a successful 2008 campaign without Dontrelle Willis and Miguel Cabrera with the help of their younger players, when surrounded by some veterans.
