django unchainedYou’ve seen the movie, and you’ve heard all the chatter, but did you know there’s also a comic book adaptation of Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained?

It’s a five-part Vertigo series out from DC Comics. It's written by Django producer Reginald Hudlin and illustrated by R.M. Guera. The first issue boasted a cover by Jim Lee.

The whole thing is edited by my pal Jim Chadwick out of DC’s west coast office. He knows how to put together a snappy comic book.

Here’s Wired talking about it.

Here’s a nice review of the first issue.

And here’s how you can get your own copy.

Remember, the “D” is silent.

Elgato Game Capture HD review

Elgato has stepped into the game capture card market with its Game Capture HD device. Connecting through HDMI, high-definition video can be captured at up to 1080p (after a recent update) on either your Windows or Mac computer. One of the biggest draws to this product is that it’s a self-powered, external capture card allowing use a laptop to capture from the comfort of your living room.

The Game Capture HD was designed to be used with all of your favorite gaming consoles and has even been updated to work directly with the newly released Wii U. As an avid Playstation gamer, the only “issue” with in in Sony’s HDCP protection with HDMI connections. Elgato has us covered though and provides a special AV cable that runs into the PS3’s multi-port to capture HD gameplay and audio. While the Game Capture HD was created with game consoles in mind, any non-HDCP protected devices with HDMI outs can be captured, including iOS devices and computers.

Dare ClubMy pal, Kim "Howard" Johnson, wrote for Starlog and Comics Scene back in the day, and turned that into a successful career as the guy who got to follow Monty Python around the world and observe them in the wild.

He's written tons of books about the Pythons and appears in Life Of Brian, and once worked as John Cleese's assistant. His wife, Laurie Bradach, was an editor at Joe Quesada's and Jimmy Palmiotti's Event Comics where she oversaw books like Ash and Painkiller Jane. Together the two of them have just announced their own publishing company, DoubleDare Books, based in Illinois.

Their first launch is The Dare Club, the start of a mystery series that sounds very appealing. Here are the details:

disney infinity

The chief creative officer of Disney and Pixar, John Lasseter, is unveiling mystery "gaming initiative" Disney Infinity on January 15, 2013 in Hollywood. Also in attendance will be John Pleasants, the principle creative advisor at Disney Imagineering. The attendance of these two suggests the enormity of Disney Infinity, which we currently know nothing about.

The New York Times interviewed Robert Iger, Disney's chief executive, in October, with Iger discussing a similar gaming initiative called Toy Box. It's possible that Toy Box has since transformed into Disney Infinity, which the NYT's described as a "console game with extensive mobile and online applications in which various Pixar and Disney characters will interact with one another for the first time."

We'll keep you posted on more news about Disney Infinity as it develops.

Turtle Beach ear Force PX5 review

Stereo headsets have been a part of computer gaming and theater experiences for years but they’ve recently started making the cross into the living room with gaming consoles. Turtle Beach has been a leader in the gaming headsets and have released a number of headsets that work with the Xbox 360 or the Playstation 3. The EAR FORCE PX5 is a wireless Dolby 7.1 Surround Sound headset that works with both.

Upon opening the PX5, I was surprised to see they had included not only the receiver, wireless surround sound headset, and detachable microphone, but also an optical cable and and others to get going. The included optical cable is very thin and feels a bit on the cheap side but the quality of sound it provides in my case was the same as a more expensive cable, but I do fear that moving it around too much may break the cable. The receiver includes an optical in and out port, standard red/white RCA jacks, a port for a wired headset in case you are playing with a friend and finally the DC power port.

ShakoHi Everybody and happy holidays from all of us here at Comix 411! Here's a few things to sample if you're lucky enough to have some time off from work/school/play.

I really want a copy of Pat Mills and John Wagner’s Shako, The Only Bear On The CIA Death List. “Shako is a true classic from the early days of 2000AD when blood-thirsty ultra-violence was a hallmark of an anarchic new comic.”

Want to know what James O’Barr (The Crow) has been doing lately? He worked on Sundown, a Western horror tale now told in motion comics form.

Daniel Best looks at the new Star Trek teaser poster.

Are you looking for an inexpensive yet worthy graphics tablet? There are two options at Monoprice and Ray Frenden gives ‘em a thumbs up.

Walking Dead Girl"Time and time again we see events like what happened today with Glen Mazzara. They continue to disrespect writers, s*** on their audience and bury their network. Mazzara took the work-in-progress that was Walking Dead and turned it into a viable TV show with a future. Without him, that future is dim. Showrunners are not development executives, we’re not cookie-cutter douchebags that you plug into a preexisting model. TWD will suffer. Even zombies need consistency."

- TV Producer Shawn Ryan (The Shield) on Glen Mazzara leaving The Walking Dead after Season 3

Nintendo TVii

Nintendo's TVii service for the Wii U is finally out, so you can take advantage of Hulu Plus and Amazon Instant Video. TVii will act as a media hub, providing several streaming services as well as your cable and DVR boxes into a cross-searchable package. You may've noticed he absence of Netflix and TiVo, however, but they are coming early next year. Japan was lucky enough to receive the service when the Wii U launched on the 8th of December, while folks in the US had no such luck, for whatever reason.

Check out the press release in full below.
