Despite lower numbers for Grey’s and Ugly Betty, Life on Mars’ premiere saw nice numbers yesterday. Meanwhile, CBS - with the help of CSI - scored wins with both the viewers and demos last night.
8pm
- Survivor: Gabon (13.3 million, 4.3/12 in 18-49) had a 500,000 bump.
- Ugly Betty (8.5 million, 2.6/7) was down slightly.
- My Name is Earl (7.1 million, 2.7/8) was up a notch; Kath & Kim‘s debut (3.2/9) pulled in 7.5 million.
- Approximately 6.5 million watched the Phillies beat the Dodgers during Game 1 of the NLCS (2.1/5) on FOX.
- Smallville (4.1 million, 1.6/4) did about the same.

Watch SNL’s Second Presidential Debate Sketch
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Prime Time, NBC, Saturday Night Live, Video,
If you were too busy watching Grey’s Anatomy or CSI to realize there was a Saturday Night Live special on yesterday, you missed another great presidential debate sketch.
Although viewers were down a Tina Fey, we were up a guest appearance from Bill Murray and a return from Chris Parnell.
Palin Rumored to Play Tina Fey on SNL
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Prime Time, Specials, NBC, Saturday Night Live, Gossip, Rumors,
Although Palin only watched Tina Fey’s first parody with the volume down, rumor has it the Alaskan governor might soon be returning the favor.
According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the VP candidate may be looking to boost some poll numbers by spoofing her spoofer. The buzz is that Sarah Palin will put her own spin on one of Fey’s humorous American Express commercials. (The above pic of Fey - coincidentally playing the flute - is from one of those spots.)
So when could this sketch possibly air? Well, it could happen as early as this Thursday. Prior to seeing the recent boost in ratings, the show’s producers had planned to air several Thursday night specials. The live 30-minute programs would get viewers geared up for the elections and help fill our needs while SNL was in reruns. (We won’t get a new Saturday night edition until October 18.)

Watch Saturday Night Live’s VP Debate Sketch
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Late Night, NBC, Saturday Night Live, Video,
In the event you had better plans last night, here’s your chance to watch Saturday Night Live‘s take on the Vice-Presidential Debate.
As mentioned earlier, Queen Latifah made a special appearance as moderator Gwen Ifill yesterday. Stepping up to play Joe Biden was cast member Jason Sudeikis. (Sudeikis also continued with his George Bush portrayal later in the same show.) And, as expected, Tina Fey resumed her role as Sarah Palin.
Those of you still playing the “maverick” drinking game better get your six-pack ready:
SNL Makes Plans for Saturday Debate Sketch
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Late Night, NBC, Saturday Night Live,
Although Saturday Night Live has not yet guaranteed a debate sketch this weekend, we are one step closer to knowing what one might look like.
According to Entertainment Weekly, if the political parody makes Saturday’s cut (as if the show has anything better to creatively offer), Oscar-nominated actress Queen Latifah will be stepping in as Gwen Ifill. Ifill - a senior correspondent for The New Hour with Jim Lehrer and the managing editor of PBS’ Washington Week - was the moderator for Thursday’s debate.

Obama and Biden React to SNL Impersonations
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Late Night, NBC, Saturday Night Live, Video,
So we already know how the McCain camp feels about Saturday Night Live‘s Palin sketches. (Answer: “Sexist.”) We also know what the vice-presidential candidate thought about Tina Fey’s work. (She claimed the first parody was “hilarious,” though she only watched it with the volume off.) But what do the Democrats think of their impersonations?
In a joint interview with Entertainment Tonight, Barack Obama and Joe Biden (alongside their wives) react to the SNL sketches. While they don’t specifically address the content of the spoofs, they do seem to take it all in stride.
Tina Fey Brings Spark to Saturday Night Live’s Ratings
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Late Night, NBC, Saturday Night Live, Ratings,
Although Saturday Night Live‘s episodes have been creatively uneven (What was up with that Michael Phelps swimming sketch?), the 2008 political season has been good to the show. Prior to last night’s broadcast, NBC saw a 50% ratings bump over 2007’s first two weeks.
A large part of the program’s recent success is, of course, due to Tina Fey‘s hilarious portrayal of Sarah Palin. Last night, the Emmy winner’s second attempt helped SNL improve 46% over this point last year. (You can see the clip of yesterday’s opener below.) Given that the Vice-Presidential debate is scheduled for this Thursday, I expect we will see Fey one more before we hit a rerun. (For some reason, the producers can only manage four episodes in a row before needing to recharge.)
Anne Hathaway and The Killers are the featured guests next Saturday.

Tina Fey Talks About Returning as Palin
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Late Night, NBC, Saturday Night Live, Gossip, News,
Although Tina Fey is not exactly in need of a job, it looks as if the multiple Emmy-winner will finish the task she really hates doing: playing Sarah Palin.
Even though it was hard denying the similarity in their looks (even Fey’s daughter called the VP candidate “Mommy”), Tina said she was dead set against taking on the role for her old stomping grounds. Fortunately for us, a persistent Lorne Michaels (SNL‘s producer) won out on in the end.
“I was fighting them all week on it. I kept saying, ‘I don’t want to do it, I’m not an impressionist.’ I kept telling Lorne, ‘No! I’ll show up ... I’ll do anything except play her. I can’t do it.’ Then, I was worn down. Lorne wore me down by the end of the week,” Fey said to Access Hollywood.

MadTV Spoof of Barack Obama
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Home Entertainment,
We are sure that by now everyone has seen the incredible impression that Tina Fey did on last week’s SNL, but you might have missed a performance on MadTV last weekend of Keegan-Michael Key doing Barack Obama. While we couldn’t find the original skit, we did manage to grab a clip by Young Hollywood.com interviewing the “Fauxbarack.” Eerie, isn’t it?
By the way, don’t you think that Peggy Hill looks a lot like Sarah Palin, too?

McCain Camp Reacts to SNL Parody
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Comedy, Late Night, NBC, Saturday Night Live, Gossip,
The minute we all got a look at Sarah Palin, the bevy of available jokes was suddenly self-evident. The woman does, after all, look a great deal like comedienne Tina Fey. That Fey is an SNL alum and still pals with NBC is just the icing on the cake. The inevitable SNL season premiere followed, showing the inevitable pairing of screen buds Fey and Amy Poehler as none other than Palin and Hillary Clinton.
The millions of SNL viewers found it hysterical and the video has been posted on a multitude of entertainment sites since. John McCain’s camp, however, didn’t find their funny bones tickled.
