Is Freida Pinto the Next Bond Girl?

Hollywood definitely recognizes a hot gem when it sees one.
Although her Oscar-winning film is still charting in the Top Ten, Slumdog Millionaire’s Freida Pinto is already moving on to the next phase of her career. Just weeks ago, the former model was cast alongside Naomi Watts, Josh Brolin and Anthony Hopkins in an untitled Woody Allen project. Now she is being rumored for something with an even higher profile.
According to a British newspaper, the 24-year-old is now being considered for the next Bond film. A source for The Sun claims Pinto’s name was actually known to them prior to her recent success. “Freida came to the attention of the Bond team when they were casting Quantum of Solace. She was too young at the time to have a part as a love interest for a secret agent. But she has blossomed into an incredibly stunning young woman and would look perfect on Daniel Craig’s arm,” the insider stated.
If the reports are true, it’s possible Freida could be reuniting with her Slumdog director for the 007 flick. The same paper also claims Danny Boyle has been asked to helm the latest installment.

Ashlee Simpson Moving to Melrose Place

Sources say that Ashlee Simpson-Wentz will soon be joining the cast of Melrose Place on the CW. She’s the first big name to become a confirmed cast member and a decent coup for the network, which already made waves by bringing us the refreshed 90210.
Ashlee Simpson-Wentz will play Violet, a character from a small town who seems very sweet and naïve…but she’s really clever, cunning and catty. Sounds perfect. The singer previously worked as a regular cast member on the squeaky-clean 7th Heaven.

Joaquin Phoenix: Just a Nut?

Joaquin Phoenix has been making waves - and scoring parodies - for his new disheveled look and reticent manner. Hollywood buzz has it that Phoenix is doing it all for the sake of a documentary, but one psychiatrist has stepped forward with an entirely different - and not so lighthearted - theory.
Paul Dobransky is a relationships expert and an author. The doctor points to signs of schizophrenia in the actor’s behavior, saying “there is something wrong,” adding, “and it’s beyond drug abuse.” He pointed to Ben Stiller’s Oscar skit (which poked fun at Phoenix and became a highlight of the evening), saying “I was pretty offended by that skit at the Oscars,” in recent comments to the Times. “It struck me as potentially beating down on the mentally ill.”
Now, that’s bold. Susan Patricola, who’s the current publicist for Phoenix, fired back. “How absolutely inappropriate for a doctor who has no personal interaction or relationship with someone to diagnose them. And to do so in a public forum,” she scoffed. Patricola called the comments “astonishingly inappropriate!”
“The jury is not exactly in on what is happening,” Dobransky commented. “Whatever it is, it’s not funny.”

Did Hayden and Milo Split Over a Pregnancy Scare?

Looks like Milo Ventimiglia and Hayden Panettiere are going back to being just uncle and niece.
After more than a year together off-screen, the Heroes stars have officially called it quits. (Did someone have a wake up call?) Insiders claim the split was a result of two people simply being in different stages of their lives.
News of their relationship initially raised eyebrows because of their 12-year age gap. Milo is 31; Hayden turned 19 back in August. The two were first spotted together in late 2007, shortly after Panettiere’s 18th birthday.

Sex and the City Sequel is a Done Deal

Ladies, get your high heels ready. All the appropriate contracts have been signed, and Sex and the City is becoming an even bigger franchise. That’s right: a Sex sequel will be forthcoming.
A spokesperson for New Line has confirmed that the movie’s four female stars and head writer Michael Patrick King have signed on for much more Sex. This news probably doesn’t come as much of a shock. After the money the first flick made, New Line would probably do anything to get the girls back on the set.
The movie will be in theaters, if all goes according to plan, sometime in the summer of 2010. And what’s the word on the script? In a recent statement, King had this to say: “I’m very excited to work with these amazing actresses again and would love to give everyone more information about the sequel…but I’m busy with my Sex life.”

The Latest Dancing with the Stars 8 Casting Rumors

Later this weekend, viewers of ABC’s Sunday night programming will be the first to learn the network’s biggest casting secret. That’s when the lineup for Dancing with the Stars 8 will finally be announced.
Despite some erroneous (and a few accurate) rumors over the past few years, the tabloids haven’t stopped speculating over the highly-anticipated lineups. Although Kim Kardashian, Lance Bass and Toni Braxton were correctly guessed last season, Paula Abdul Ty Murray were not.
So far, we’ve already heard Donny Osmond announce, then deny, that he would be competing this March. We’ve also learned that Cindy McCain was interested but that Kevin Federline wasn’t. Who else is reportedly in the wings?

Apple and Adobe collaborating on Flash for iPhone

What’s the latest on the iPhone Flash rumors? It looks like work is being done, but that finding a solution is proving to be tough, as evidenced by Adobe’s Shantanu Narayen:
“It’s a hard technical challenge, and that’s part of the reason Apple and Adobe are collaborating,” Narayen told Bloomberg Television at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. “The ball is in our court. The onus is on us to deliver.”
Did you get that? Apple and Adobe are working together to come up with a suitable Flash derivative for the iPhone. So while there’s no set date or anything, we can at least rest assured that it’s coming. iPhone Hulu, anyone?

Joaquin Phoenix the Rapper: Just a PR Stunt?

When Academy Award nominee Joaquin Phoenix announced his retirement from film, the news came as a bit of a shock. When he further stated that he’d be eschewing screen fame for the music industry, it was quite a surprise.
But when we heard him perform, everyone began to wonder if perhaps Phoenix wasn’t as serious as he originally sounded in his statement. Surely a guy with his acting chops can’t hope to survive on bad raps!
Now, new rumors are coming to light in this odd little acting/rapping melodrama. Some say Phoenix is working with Casey Affleck on a documentary which films the actor’s odd behavior (including his Las Vegas performance, which ended with Phoenix falling off the stage).
A source with no name told EW very plainly that Phoenix himself stated, “It’s a put-on.” As in, one big hoax.

Is TomKat Pregnant Again?

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes were spotted leaving the Ivy restaurant in L.A. recently. The gossip started when the happy husband put his hand on his wife’s belly. Today, everyone is convinced it can only mean one thing: there’s another baby on the way.
The rep for Katie Holmes reports that the brunette actress is not expecting, but unnamed sources cited by OK! Magazine seem to think this is moot. “Tom would love to have another baby!” One insider is quoted as saying.
A different “insider” says of Tom Cruise, “He’d be happy to have another girl. Katie feels the same.”

Dakota Fanning Rumored for New Moon Role

UPDATE: Dakota acknowledges that she is in discussions for the role.
Now that the Vanessa Hudgens rumor has been debunked, we’re moving on to an actress with a bit more film cred.
If the E! Online report is true, Dakota Fanning may be joining the cast of the Twilight sequel. According to sources, the Man on Fire star has been offered a role without even having to audition.
If negotiations go well, the 14-year-old will play Jane, a member of the Volturi vampires. While it may be hard to imagine Fanning as a bloodsucker, the character has been described as a petite blonde with a childlike voice and “Botticelli angel-like face.”
Production on New Moon is scheduled to begin in March.
