American Idol 8: Top 7 Perform
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, American Idol, Gossip,
American Idol‘s Top 7 got to study the week’s theme under Quentin Tarantino, truly one of the greatest directors in cinematic history. I expected really great tunes from really great flicks. I got a bunch of tired love songs, many of them unrecognizable as part of any cinematic soundtrack.
Ryan Seacrest chatted up the band, which has been moved to the stage. He then turned to the panel to say hello, a time-wasting tactic that was quite misplaced considering Idol almost always runs late. He called it “an historic evening.” Simon Cowell called it “unfortunate.”
“Tonight, we have to talk two at a time,” he explained. Idol is, as usual, having time constraints.

Sonos Controller for iPhone 2.8.1
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Music, App Updates, Free Apps,
The latest version of the Sonos Controller for iPhone has been released, and it is the one we’ve been personally waiting for since the app was first made available. Why is that? Well, aside from all the other features, Sonos Controller 2.8.1 now supports DRM-protected Windows Media files, and Windows Media shares show up and are now browsable, as they’ve always been on the regular Sonos Controller. This means I can browse all my Zune music from the iPhone, and that makes me a happy boy. Here’s a look at all the new features:
- Full-featured alarm and timer functionality so you can wake up or fall asleep to your favorite music. Set, edit and delete Sonos alarms right from your iPhone.
- Support for 7 languages. Now you can control Sonos from your iPhone or iPod touch in English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Dutch, and Swedish.
- PC-free setup of your network music folders.
- Support for DRM-protected WMA files.
In order to take advantage of these, you’ll also need to update your Sonos system as well, to software version 2.8.

Hyoutan iPod Speakers
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Misc. Tech, Music, Portable Audio / Video,
The hyoutan is technically a type of cucumber that can be eaten and also used as a sponge, gourd, birdhouse or instrument housing. Bird Electronic in Japan decided that it would also make a pretty good speaker that would produce a “soft and natural” sound. The Hyoukan Speaker Double cone has a mini-adapter to connect to your iPod or other audio player. They can be hung or placed on a shelf and come with a MSRP of ¥ 18,500 ($185.00.)

American Idol 8: Ode to the Movies
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, American Idol, Gossip, Rumors,
Next week, American Idol’s lucky seven will sing songs from cinema. In other words, buckle up for some show tunes, Idol watchers.
Quentin Tarantino will act as a mentor to the Idols, a role for which he’ll surely draw on his movie-making expertise to help the singers convey the right emotions. I’m imagining a night filled with Hollywood classics from movies like My Fair Lady, West Side Story and The Music Man. It’s much more likely I’ll hear tunes from The Jonas Brothers’ latest flick. But, alas, not all things are perfect.
Performances from Disney darling Miley Cyrus and Jennifer Hudson will be featured during the Top 7 results show to celebrate movie week.

iTunes Prices Raised
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Apple, Corporate News, Music,
You may have noticed by now the change of pricing on iTunes. As of Tuesday, Apple has begun to sell some of its most popular titles for $1.29 each. Others will be lowered to $.69 while some will remain at $.99. Recording companies decide the prices and Apple has also dropped DRM, so that others sans iPods can enjoy the downloads, as long as they support the company’s AAC encoding. It might pay to shop around though, as Amazon offers many of them for 79 and 89 cents.

Is Kara DioGuardi Fitting in on American Idol?
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, American Idol, Gossip,
Every season, American Idol takes some lucky contestants - and puts them right in the middle of a media fishbowl where their every move, past and present, is dissected and printed…usually with corresponding pictures.
But it’s not just the contestants who are under the microscope. Every season, the judges are quoted and pictured and filmed at length. In fact, some of them seem to get more screen time than the singers. This year, American Idol has offered up a new personality for the media to devour.
Her name is Kara DioGuardi, and she’s the fifth regular cast member to join the show. But let’s face facts: she’s still there, more or less, on trial. If DioGuardi doesn’t seem to work out pretty well this season, there’s no way of knowing if she’ll be back for the next.

American Idol 8: Top 8 Results
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, American Idol, Gossip,
The intro for the Top 8 results show of American Idol 8 was highly dramatic, replete with clips of judges’ comments and images of the contestants. Paula Abdul wore opera length gloves for the evening; Randy wore his usual cardigan and Simon Cowell was, as always, in a black v-neck.
To re-visit the theme of the evening, a song from the year American Idol was born (1959) played out on the Idol big screen. The song was from Frankie Avalon, who then appeared on the big stage singing the same joint. The crowd - and Paula - seemed genuinely surprised and delighted.
I wasn’t. I spend every results show thinking “just get to it, already” - to no avail of course.
