The Korean company LG will be displaying an even thinner LED-backlit LCD TV at the upcoming CES 2009. It has a thickness of 24.8mm, which is slightly smaller than an inch. The TV has a 2,000,000:1 ratio and the company’s 240Hz TrueMotion Drive technology. It has already won an Innovation Award in the display category. There is no availability date or price revealed but that’s okay, in our cramped quarters, we still want one!

The teaming of Korea’s Nanovision and DisplayLink has produced MIMO USB Monitors. Both models were designed for users who want a quick glance, such as stock brokers and IM folk. The 7-inch LCD displays have a resolution of 800x480 and adjust orientation automatically. The UM-730 has a 1.3 webcam, headphone jac and microphone for 98,000 KRW ($78.00.) The high-end UM-750, in addition to everything on the 730, features a touchscreen and built-in DMB tuner with a price of 183,000 KRW (~$147.00.) Unfortunately, both are only available overseas for now.

Korean Cloned Puppies

Cloned Puppies

These are the first cloned pets (if you don’t count Dolly and a couple of cows.) A research team from Seoul National University created them from “Booger” who died in 2006. Using somatic cell nuclear transfer from the dog’s ear, the genetic material was injected into eggs, then to the uteri of two dogs. While one of the puppies came by a C section, the other four were delivered naturally. The pups came into the world in Seoul, Korea last Monday.

Although preloaded cartridges will be available, blank ones will also be offered. Out October 18, the Hi-kara runs on 4 AA batteries for about 4 1/2 hours of use and will carry a price of ¥10,500 ($97.00.)

Averatec’s All-In-One single body PC has lots of up to date features. It has an Intel Core 2 Duo Processor, a 22-inch WSXGA+ HD display supporting up to 1680x1050p, a 320GB hard disk drive,  and a 2GB DDR2 SDRAM expandable to 4GB. The Korean made computer also has a 4-in-1 media card reader, a dual layer DVD/CD burner, a built-in 1.3 megapixel webcam, and nVidia GeForce graphics. For those who see it as an iMac clone will note its innards are all Windows with Vista Home Premium. With a full-size wireless keyboard and mouse, and a MCE remote control, it will be out next month and carry a MSRP of $1,299.00.

LG’s latest touchscreen phone, Bikini, features an InteractPad that replaces navigation keys with context-specific virtual keys. The Korean company claims that the keys, being larger and spaced out more, are more flexible than standard ones. The Bikini comes in black or red wine, has a 3mp cam with video, MP3 player, FM radio, and Bluetooth capability. Available in two models, the suggested price should fall between 500,000 (~$482.00) and 600,000 KRW (~$578.00.)
