Pandora updated for iOS 4 backgrounding
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Music, App Updates, Free Apps,
Apple’s iOS 4 is set to launch publicly today, and many app developers have been hard at work updating their apps to support the new iOS 4 functions. Today, one of the most popular apps that exists, Pandora, has been updated to allow for backgrounding on iOS 4. What does that mean exactly? Well, now you can fire up Pandora, pick a station, and the music will keep playing, even if you leave the app (similar to iPod.) A double-tap of the home button, and a swipe to the left, will give you widget controls to let you control the music without even going back into the Pandora app. You can get the update now, or if you don’t have it yet, you can download Pandora for free.
[Thanks, Jason!]

- Sync and read books with iPhone or iPod touch with iOS 4 and iBooks 1.1
- Organize and sync PDF documents as books. Read PDFs with iBooks 1.1 on iPad and any iPhone or iPod touch with iOS 4
- Organize your apps on your iOS 4 home screens into folders using iTunes
- Faster back-ups while syncing an iPhone or iPod touch with iOS 4
- Album artwork improvements make artwork appear more quickly when exploring your library
You can download iTunes 9.2 now.
iBooks for iPhone now available on iOS 4
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Books, New Apps, Apple, Free Apps,
Just a quick heads-up for anyone wanting to start reading books from the iBookstore on their iOS 4 iPhones—the iBooks app is now available for download in the App Store. In fact, if you go into the App Store from the iPhones itself, you’ll get a notification letting you know that iBooks is available, and asking you if you’d like to download it right then and there. As Apple announced at WWDC 2010, iBooks for iPhone will sync your book data, including bookmarks, notes, pages read, etc., across all iPhones, iPod touches, and iPads that you have them running on.
iOS 4 Golden Master SDK released to developers

For all you iPhone and iPad devs out there, the iPhone Developer Portal has just been updated with the iOS GM seed, alongside the GM seed of the iOS 4 SDK. Remember, iPhone OS has been renamed iOS, for anyone who is confused. The software build is 8A293, while the SDK build is 10M2262. Apple announced earlier today at WWDC that iOS 4 will officially launch on June 21, available as a free upgrade for iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, and iPod touch users—and that’s the first time that a major update to iOS has been made available for free to the iPod touch! The iPhone 4 launches three days later.
iTunes 9.2: Sync iBooks to iPhone, Organize PDFs, App Folders
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Smartphones, Music, Software,
Apple has released a beta version of iTunes 9.2 to developers, and the feature list seems to be almost exclusively related to iOS 4. The next version of iTunes will allow you to sync the iPhone 4, sync iBooks to and from the iPhone and iPod touch, organize and sync PDFs to iBooks, and organize your apps into folders in iTunes and then sync everything over to your device. Other improvements are there to make iTunes faster, both in scrolling, and in backing up your iOS 4 devices.

iPhone OS 4 renamed iOS 4
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Corporate News, Software,
Apple has decided to retire the iPhone OS name with version 4.0, as they’ve just announced at the WWDC 2010 keynote. The new name will be iOS 4. It makes perfect sense, since the iPad runs iOS as well (as does the iPod touch,) and isn’t a phone.
