Taylor Momsen Inspired by Nirvana

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Concerts / Tours, Performances, Rock,

Taylor MomsenTaylor Momsen became a rock musician after growing up listening to AC/DC and Nirvana.

The Pretty Reckless frontwoman - currently working on a follow-up to the group's 2010 debut Light Me Up - was inspired to start making heavy rock 'n' roll music by her father's albums.

"My dad has a massive record collection. So I grew up listening to vinyl, you know all the classics, Beatles, Zeppelin, Who, Pink Floyd, you know AC/DC, Soundgarden, Nirvana. So I just, I kind of grew up with it, and it just stuck," she said.

The 18-year-old singer-and-actress was "so excited" when the "Miss Nothing" hitmakers completed their debut album, but she thinks it's the "most incredible feeling in the world" when fans sing her own songs back to her during live performances: "Finishing the record was the first thing. When it was actually done, you know, I was so excited. But then, you know writing any type of song - any time you finish something that's like the best feeling in the world. And then what comes after that is playing it live, and then from, translating from playing it live to having the fans sing every word to every song back to you is just the most incredible feeling in the world."

Nars to Launch Andy Warhol Range

Francois NarsNars is to launch a new range of color cosmetics inspired by Andy Warhol.

The limited edition collection, entitled Nars Andy Warhol, will be created by founder Francois Nars under license with The Andy Warhol Foundation, and it is said to evoke the cool, image-rich, character-laden world of the late commercial illustrator.

The project will be launched in the US in October and other parts of the world in November and is thought to be the make-up brand's largest strategic collaboration so far.

The company has previously worked with fashion muse Daphne Guinness on a campaign - which saw her wearing a purple eyeshadow inspired by and named after her - citing her as the brand's ideal ambassador.

"She fits the image of the brand so well. She's very creative and elegant and is a chameleon. And she really loves make-up - the whole process of it. Any makeup artist dreams of having someone like that as a muse," Francois said of her.

Lenny Kravtiz’s Tom Ford Inspiration

Lenny Kravitz in The Hunger GamesLenny Kravitz was inspired by Tom Ford to play stylist Cinna in The Hunger Games.

The singer-and-actor had not heard about the Suzanne Collins novel - which tells the tale of a future world where youngsters are made to fight to the death for TV audiences - but wanted to make his character as toned down as possible so he wasn't "too outrageous."

"I'll be quite frank with you - I didn't know about Hunger Games - so when I'm telling kids and they say, 'Who are you playing?' and I say Cinna, they go, 'Oh you're playing the gay guy.' The question was 'How far do we go with him?' The idea was to pull it back and create a character that's more like a Tom Ford or an Yves Saint Laurent so he wouldn't be too outrageous. He's classic, he's got his gold eyeliner. I kind of played him in the middle."

The 47-year-old star did not go into the role thinking that the character was gay, but merely eccentric. "I thought about it, and I read the book and I don't see that he is or isn't [gay]. He's a designer, he's a stylist, he has gold eyeliner-that doesn't mean anything either way."

L’Wren Scott Was Too Tall for Fashionable Clothes

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Fashion Designers, Models,

L'wren ScottL'Wren Scott could never find anything to fashionable to wear when she was younger because she was so tall.

The 6ft 3in designer - who is currently dating Rolling Stones legend Sir Mick Jagger- says while her height has enabled her to be a successful model, it also has it hindrances.

"I was so tall and so skinny - I was that kid who couldn't find anything to wear. All the cool kids would have jeans the right length and I would just think 'What am I going to do?'" she said.

As well as having a successful modeling career, L'Wren is also a well-respected designer after launching her own label in 2006 and says it's important for women to feel good in her creations: "I wanted to create things that you can always pull out of your closet and rely on. I wanted to create a timeless, classic collection of clothing that you can keep expanding on. If you don't feel good in it, don't wear it because you'll never look good."

Avril Lavigne for her Abbey Dawn lineAvril Lavigne says her latest clothing collection is her sexiest yet.

The "What The Hell" singer launched her Abbey Dawn range in 2008 and says the newest designs are a lot more feminine than the ones before because she's starting to grow up.

"It's a little more geared toward an older age group. It's feminine, it's sexy, it's flattering, it's black, it's rock 'n' roll. I'm 27. I'm getting old," she said.

Earlier this year, signed a deal with JustFab.com to launch an accessories line for Abbey Dawn and she has said she's really proud of the collection, which consists of 12 shoe styles and five handbags.

"Overall, the style of Abbey Dawn is rock 'n' roll, so you see a lot of spikes and skulls and black. They are bold pieces. They make a statement. They are a lot of fun," she explained.

Mary-Kate Olsen in Elle UKMary-Kate Olsen can't leave the house if she isn't happy with what she's wearing.

The 25-year-old blonde - who runs three successful clothing labels with twin sister Ashley - says it's very important for her to be comfortable in the clothes she's got on otherwise she finds it a struggle to go out.

"I think as soon as you start dressing for someone else, it goes wrong. I can't leave the house if I don't like what I'm wearing. I mean, I literally can't."

However, Mary-Kate insists she's not obsessed by fashion, saying, "We're not really fashion obsessed. In fact, I don't know when things are fashionable or not. I'm not very aware of trends or hot new items. We're not cool."

Red Hot Chili Peppers Increase Morale With New Tracks

Anthony Kiedis of the Red Hot Chili PeppersRed Hot Chili Peppers increased "morale" by writing new songs while their tour is delayed.

The "Under the Bridge" group had to postpone their US dates from January to the end of this month after frontman Anthony Kiedis injured his foot, and drummer Chad Smith said they took advantage of the time off to start on new tracks.

"We just rehearsed and came up with some ideas and new song ideas. It's good for morale, it's good for the future. The future is bright. Normally in Chili Peppers world we never really had this much of a kind of break in a tour. Before, if we had a month off, we would never get together and write song ideas. But everyone just wanted to play. It was great," Smith said.

Chad - who is in the group with Anthony, bassist Flea and guitarist Josh Klinghoffer - also confirmed former axeman John Frusciante, a member of the band for their most popular albums, Blood Sugar Sex Magik, Californication, and By the Way, will not attend when they are inducted into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame in April:

Lana Del Rey Reveals Herself Through Lyrics

Lana Del ReyLana Del Rey thinks people "know" her through her lyrics.

The "Blue Jeans" star said thinks fans can relate to the realism of her gloomy lyrics and respect her for not compromising with her tracks.

"I think the people who sort of feel like they know me from my lyrics, and I think that they feel what I write about is what really went down and how I really feel about it. I think maybe what people who like me like about me is the fact that I really believe in myself and what I do and I never compromise with anything that I do in my life - not lyrically, not in reality. I never say anything just to rhyme over sugary pop songs. I really care about documenting my life in a musical fashion. So, I think, people that like me are actually artists," she told Los Angeles-based radio station KROQ.

Lana has proved a controversial figure since her debut single "Video Games," but added the version of her which people are debating is far from her actual personality. "The internet right now is creating their own person for themselves to play with. And that's their prerogative. I wrote every word on my album. There isn't nothing that I didn't write. And I really have done everything that I said I did do. I think the kids know that. The rest is just a story that somebody else made up."

Kanye West Upsets Royal Family

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Music, Parties,

Kanye West in LondonKanye West has upset Britain's royal family.

The rapper was reportedly the subject of a number of complaints from unspecified members of the monarchy who were infuriated by the star playing his music too loudly in his $4,300-a-night suite at London's Lanesborough Hotel - which is near Buckingham Palace - where he has been living with members of his entourage including Common, Pusha T and Big Sean.

"We went to London and we were right next to the Buckingham Palace and the royal family. There were members of the royal family staying below us. Kanye had rented out the top floor and we was banging that b***h out. Every room was a studio. The royal family below were complaining like, 'We got all this loud-ass rap music above us and weed smoke.' They paid all this money and you don't expect to get these kind of complaints," Kanye's protégé Big Sean told The Sun.

Despite the complaints, Kanye hasn't spent all his time in the hotel. Last month, he joined in the Jack the Ripper tour, which takes place in London's East End area and retraces the footsteps of the notorious and still unidentified serial killer from the late 1800s.
