DJ AM Steps Out in Public for Memorial Service
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Music,
Three days after being released from the hospital, DJ AM (a.k.a. Adam Goldstein) attended the funeral for Chris Baker. Baker, one of the four victims from September 20’s crash, was Travis Barker’s close friend and assistant.
Although Goldstein’s burns were mostly covered, injuries to his neck were still visible underneath his green polo. (The attendees were asked to wear Chris’ favorite color to Monday’s service.)
Travis, who was also released from the Georgia hospital yesterday, was unfortunately not able to pay his respects his person. The former Blink-182 drummer, who now (understandably) refuses to fly, is currently en route back to LA via a bus.

UPDATE: Travis Barker has just been released from the hospital as well.
One week after surviving a deadly plane crash, 35-year-old DJ AM (a.k.a. Adam Goldstein) has been released from the hospital. Goldstein, who was a patient at the Joseph M. Still Burn Center in Augusta, was originally listed in critical condition at the time of admittance. According to Dr. Fred Mullins, Adam was treated for second and third-degree burns to his arms and a portion of his head.
Adam’s departure was addressed in a statement released today by his rep. “While he is deeply saddened by the events, he is thankful for all of the love and support he has been receiving from fans and friends worldwide. We ask that you continue to respect his privacy as he rests and heals and mourns the loss of his friends.”

You can find an update to this story here.
A Learjet crashed shortly after takeoff last night killing four of the six people on board. The incident, which happened at an airport in Columbia, SC, also injured former Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker and friend DJ AM (a.k.a. Adam Goldstein).
Barker, also known for his MTV show Meet the Barkers, and Goldstein, Nicole Richie‘s former fiancee, were both taken to an Augusta, GA hospital. The two men were last listed in critical condition and were reportedly being treated for burns.
Those killed in the incident include Barker’s 29-year-old assistant, Chris Baker, and his 25-year-old security guard, Charles Still. The pilot, 31-year-old Sarah Lemmon, and co-pilot, 25-year-old James Bland, were also killed.

Jennifer Lopez Cancels on Project Runway Judging
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Prime Time, Reality, Bravo, Cable, News,
As they say, the show must go on.
The producers of Project Runway had planned to introduce another surprise judge for this season’s upcoming. And thanks to an interesting twist of fate, they now will.
As rumored, fashionista Jennifer Lopez had been scheduled to play guest judge for the show’s Fashion Week finale. (Her appearance would have followed the job done by Victoria Beckham in Season 4.) Unfortunately, a last-minute foot injury forced the style icon to bow out of today’s taping.
It’s not known whether the injury was somehow related to Lopez’ current triathlon training. It also wasn’t made clear why Jennifer couldn’t still judge while sitting down.
Fortunately for the producers, they didn’t have to go far to find a knowledgeable replacement. For the first time in five installments, mentor Tim Gunn will be given his chance to have a say in the final selection.
Now, really—wasn’t this the way it should have been anyway?

Painful Moment During Wednesday’s Olympic Coverage
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Sports, NBC, Video,
If you somehow missed today’s weightlifting coverage (as if you would know when it was on), you luckily avoided one of the nastiest accidents in quite some time.
Hungarian Janos Baranyai was attempting to hoist 148kg (326 lbs) over his head when things went terribly wrong. The 24-year-old, who was participating in his very first Olympics, lost control of the bar and dislocated his elbow on the way down.
WARNING: The video is pretty hard to watch.

Morgan Freeman Seriously Injured
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Movies, Breaking News,
UPDATE: The actor, who is reportedly in good spirits now, is suffering from a broken shoulder, broken elbow and shoulder damage.
As they say, bad luck comes in threes.
First there was Heath Ledger’s death. Then there was Christian Bale’s arrest. Now we’re learning of a serious accident for The Dark Knight‘s Morgan Freeman.
According to the Mississippi Highway Patrol, the actor and one other passenger were involved in rollover accident late last night. A vehicle the Oscar winner was driving reportedly left the roadway and flipped several times. Although the circumstances are still being investigated, it is not believed that drugs or alcohol were in any way involved.
Freeman - who was was heard talking and joking at the scene - was flown to the Regional Medical Center in Memphis where the 71-year-old is listed in serious condition. No status has been given for the other patient who was also airlifted.

Transformers 2 Delayed Due to LaBeouf’s Arrest

UPDATE: It looks as if Shia may not may not be blamed for the accident after all.
As mentioned on VIP Breakdown earlier today, actor Shia LaBeouf was arrested Sunday morning after a DUI-related accident in Los Angeles.
The 22-year-old was taken to Cedars-Sinai around 3 a.m. where he underwent surgery for injuries to his left hand. (He also received minor injuries to his head and knee.) A female passenger from his car and the female driver from the other vehicle were treated and released. (Video of LaBeouf’s overturned vehicle can be seen after the jump.)
In a statement, the star’s rep said Shia’s status would prevent him from immediately returning to work:
“Attorneys for Mr. LaBeouf confirm that an automobile accident involving an additional party occurred early morning in Los Angeles on July 27, 2008. Shia is currently recovering from extensive hand surgery with plans to return to work on the set of Transformers 2 within one month. No further comment will be issued at this time.”

At least she can say she made it to the finals…
After narrowly beating out Comfort last week for a spot in the Top Ten, So You Think You Can Dance‘s Jessica King is having to give up her spot to Comfort.
Producer/judge Nigel Lythgoe told reporters today that an unfortunate injury has sidelined the redhead for approximately four to five weeks. This means Comfort Fedoke will get at least one more chance to demonstrate her obvious lack of training.
More details on Jessica’s injury will be revealed on this week’s episode. In the meantime, you can review Jessica’s last contemporary piece with Will after the jump:
