Kerry Washington: I Don’t Drink Alcohol

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Movies, Television, Features,

Kerry WashingtonKerry Washington doesn't drink alcohol.

The 36-year-old star admits she only indulges in booze on special occasions as she likes to keep a clear head in every situation, and would rather steer away from the high amount of calories embedded in an alcoholic beverage. Speaking to the New York Post newspaper, she said, "I actually live quietly. Work hard. Get bored easily. Don't drink. Who needs those empty calories? I watch what I eat. I train, do pilates. I drink maybe twice a year."

While the Emmy Award-nominated actress insists she likes to maintain a healthy diet, she previously admitted she suffers from severe allergies to a lot of food types and must travel with an EpiPen - a syringe containing epinephrine used to treat allergic reactions - at all times. "Most people do not know about this but I carry an EpiPen with me almost everywhere I go because I have a lot of food allergies, like fatal food allergies, that if I eat these things, I could wind up dying in an emergency room somewhere. So I always have an EpiPen. It's not sexy, but I'm being honest, I have an EpiPen in my bag," she explained.

Mariah Carey: Shoulder Injury Is as Painful as Child Birth

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Music, Features,

Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon with their kidsMariah Carey has likened her painful shoulder injury to giving birth.

The "#Beautiful" hitmaker has been confined to a sling since July after taking a severe fall and dislocating her shoulder on the set of a music video, and she says the traumatic experience was not too dissimilar to the pain she felt giving birth to two-year-old twins, Moroccan and Monroe.

"I feel like I have suffered the toughest experience of my life about several things; one was having twins and anybody who's ever had multiples will know it is one of the most difficult experiences ever but the reward is just beyond - I can't even explain how rewarding having these babies is for me. But yeah, breaking my rib was not festive. Dislocating my shoulder was not a good thing, either."

Earlier this month, the 43-year-old songbird lamented on her tough road to recovery, telling fans her dislocated shoulder has been the "toughest experience" of her life in an emotional open letter posted on her Facebook page. "When people expected me to go, 'Here I am, I'm back and everything's great,' it didn't happen because my hand was still in tremendous pain and it took this long for it to heal," she wrote.

Scanadu Scout bringing to life the medical Tricorder

Scanadu Scout

Fans of the Star Trek franchise can totally appreciate the concept of the Tricorder. Now, what if I told you that it actually exists? Nelson De Brouwer founded Scanadu and actually went about inventing the Scanadu Scout. The Scout is round, small, and fits in one hand. It connects to a mobile app which stores your vital sign readings like temperature and oxygen levels in the blood. Scanadu also includes a plethora of heart readings like heart rate, ECG, HRV and PWTT (blood pressure.) It also has the ability for urine analysis or UA and, my personal favorites, reading test and stress levels. Scanadu Scout is being crowdsourced and sold for $199.99 on IndieGoGo. Check out the video that shows how it all works after the quick jump.

Paris Jackson Moves to New Treatment Center

Paris JacksonParis Jackson has moved into a new treatment facility.

The 15-year-old aspiring actress, who attempted suicide last month, left UCLA Medical Center on Tuesday and is now staying at an undisclosed residential treatment center, where she will continue to be supervised and undergo treatment for depression. A source told People.com that the facility was chosen by Paris' grandmother and legal guardian Katherine Jackson, as well as her biological mother Debbie Rowe, who she has recently reconnected with, because they did think she was ready to return home.

"The feeling is that Paris is still a danger to herself. Both Katherine and Debbie want her to get the help that she needs," the insider added.

It was recently revealed that Demi Lovato reached out to Paris. The X Factor judge, who has a history of self-harm and whose estranged father recently died, reached out to the troubled teenager to let her know she is not alone. "With Demi having just lost her dad, she feels a special bond with Paris. She told Paris about how she'd endured horrible bullying about her weight and her looks and even nasty comments about her estranged father. That struck a chord with Paris because of her own controversial father and like Demi, she's been dieting for years. There are so few people in Hollywood who show up during the tough times but Demi is the real deal," a source said.

Rehab “Too Hard” for Brooke Mueller

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Television, Drugs, Rumors,

Brooke MuellerBrooke Mueller quit rehab because it was "too hard."

The former wife of Charlie Sheen checked in to the Betty Ford Clinic in California last month for her 21st rehab stint but left the facility recently because she was unhappy at being asked to do chores. "Brooke didn't tell anyone, including her lawyer, that she had left Betty Ford. Brooke hated Betty Ford because she was required to do daily chores, which she resented. She complained that Betty Ford was just too hard. Betty Ford is hardcore and Brooke just doesn't respond well in situations where she can't call the shots," a source said.

However, 35-year-old Brooke's decision to leave rehab could ruin her chances at regaining custody of her four-year-old twin sons Bob and Max, who are currently being looked after by Charlie's other ex-wife Denise Richards. "This could have a serious impact on Brooke's bid to get custody of the twins. Brooke just doesn't seem to be taking get sober that seriously. Her doctors at Betty Ford advised her not to leave, but she did anyway. Her therapists will be submitting an extensive report about Brooke's time at Betty Ford and it won't be glowing, that is for sure," the insider added.

Melissa Etheridge: Angelina’s Double Mastectomy Wasn’t Brave

Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Movies, Music, Features,

Melissa EtheridgeWhile many people have praised Angelina Jolie for her decision to undergo a double mastectomy surgery for preventative measures against cancer - of which she discovered she is at great risk due to a mutated gene - singer Melissa Etheridge is not one of them.

"I wouldn’t call it the brave choice. I actually think it’s the most fearful choice you can make when confronting anything with cancer," the 52 year-old musician - who underwent five rounds of chemotherapy herself in 2005 - said in a recent interview.

The LGBT activist reasoned that there are other ways to avoid cancer: "[Having a double mastectomy] is way down the line on the spectrum of what you can do and [considering] the advancements we’ve made in things like nutrition and stress levels. My belief is that cancer comes from inside you and so much of it has to do with the environment of your body. It’s the stress that will turn that gene on or not. Plenty of people have the gene mutation and everything but it never comes to cancer. There was so much acidity in everything. I really encourage people to go a lot longer and further before coming to [Jolie's] conclusion."
