Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Artist News, Hip-Hop & Rap,

EminemEminem almost quit rap after his first ever public performance. The "Stan" hitmaker started out battle rapping in Detroit in the early 90s, but was so embarrassed when he was booed he almost quit entirely.

"The first time I rapped in front of actual people that mattered, in a club, I got booed. And it was very traumatic for me. I just remember it being so f***ing traumatic, and I think I went home and I was like, man, I quit. And you know a week later, a day later, an hour later I got the urge, and I was like, I gotta get up, I gotta do it again."

Eminem has since become one of the most successful rappers of all time, and says he owes his life to the rap game: "I certainly feel like if it wasn't for rap, obviously, I wouldn't be here, but it gave me my voice, it gave me my outlook, it gave me strength, you know what I came back from, overdose and a whole load of s**t - without rap I wouldn't be able to do a f***ing thing."

AdeleBritish songstress Adele's 21 has become the biggest selling digital album of all time in the US.

The "Rolling in the Deep" hitmaker took the title from Eminem's Recovery record by selling 1.017 million digital copies of her LP in the country compared to the rapper's 1.005 million sales of his seventh studio album. Keith Caulfield, Billboard's associate director of charts/retail, said the 23-year-old British singer is "not just a digital phenomenon. She appeals to older consumers, who will still buy full albums, and to younger people who may just buy a single track."

According to figures from Nielsen SoundScan, digital sales make up more than 30 per cent of the purchases of 21, which was released in the US in February.

Eminem: Hollywood’s Next Leading Man?

EminemEminem fell off the radar for a few years after his attention-getting role in 2002's 8 Mile, but now the rapper is back in the spotlight with his best-selling album “Recovery,” and he’s getting back in the movie game.

Random Acts of Violence will mark his return to the big screen, but he’s not stopping there. Eminem is currently working on Shady Talez, a 3-D horror film and Southpaw, a drama about boxing -- not baseball.

Scoff if you will, but some writers are already comparing Eminem to the likes of Will Smith and Mark Wahlberg. It wasn’t so long ago that both A-listers were household names because of their rap skills. Will Smith returned to rapping in 1997, but now he’s passed the torch on to his daughter. Wahlberg, perhaps anxious to put his Marky Mark days behind him, has not rapped since he became a bankable box office star.

Random Acts of Violence originally began with a Grand Theft Auto feel, but director David Von Ancken says his vision for the film is more like The Town or The Departed. In the film, Eminem plays an ex-con stuck between his old pals and the FBI.
