Sharon Stone Apologizes for China Remark

Sharon Stone, Cannes Film FestivalWhat a difference a year makes. In 2007, was serving on the jury of the Shanghai International Film Festival. Today, that same organizing committee has banned her for life.

This stiff decision was a result of Stone’s controversial remarks about the Chinese earthquake; it follows a large theater chain’s proposed boycott of the star’s films.

As part of the fallout, one of Stone’s own employers has had to take swift action to repair the damage. In addition to dropping the 50-year-old from their Chinese ads, fashion house Christian Dior has released a statement from the Casino actress:

“Due to my inappropriate words and acts during the interview, I feel deeply sorry and sad about hurting Chinese people. I am willing to take part in the relief work of China’s earthquake, and wholly devote myself to helping affected Chinese people.”

So Sharon’s insensitive remarks caused her to lose work? Now, I think that would qualify as karmic retribution.

China May Boycott Sharon Stone Films

Sharon Stone, Cannes Film FestivalWhile it’s not unusual for to make her presence known, controversial remarks made during the Cannes Film Festival currently have her in China’s spotlight.

While speaking to the Cable Entertainment News of Hong Kong, the Tibetan supporter lent her thoughts on China’s devastating earthquake. And while her comments seemed less offensive toward the end, most only heard what she said in the beginning. (You can see that full interview after the jump.)

The 50-year-old admitted she wondered if karmic retribution played any part in the May 12th event. “I’m not happy about the way the Chinese are treating the Tibetans because I don’t think anyone should be unkind to anyone else.” She then said, “And then this earthquake and all this stuff happened, and then I thought, is that karma? When you’re not nice that the bad things happen to you?”

Mel Gibson Plans Acting Return

Mel GibsonAfter spending some time under the radar, is apparently ready to make a return to acting.

Although Gibson has definitely been busy over the last several years, his primary focus has been on directorial work (, The Passion of the Christ).  It’s actually been some time since Mel has placed himself in front of the camera.  His last major motion pictures hit theaters back in 2002 (Signs, We Were Soldiers).

I’m sure the calculated time off also had something to do with the actor’s brush with the law.  If he could manage to keep out of the limelight, people would eventually forget those anti-Semitic remarks.  Right?

Christian Coalition Upset with Miley Cyrus Photos

Miley Cyrus, Vanity Fair

As you’ve probably all heard by now, controversy has arisen from Miley Cyrus’ recent photo shoot for Vanity Fair.  Some of the pics - taken by famed photographer Annie Leibovitz - show a topless Miley draped by a sheet.  (You can see a behind-the-scenes photo above.)

Although she see seemed fine with how things were going at the time, the singer is now apparently “embarrassed” by the results.  (Methinks ‘s disapproval had something to do with that ounce of regret.)

Of course, it didn’t take very long for the Christian Coalition to jump on the bandwagon and offer up their two cents on the matter.  The organization doesn’t feel like a written apology from the 15-year-old is quite enough.  They believe the star should be reprimanded by her bosses and be forced to hold a press conference.  “If she’s gonna go out there and represent wholesome values, she needs to be more accountable for her actions.”

American Idol Rocker on the Rocks Again

David CookThe buzz on rocker David Cook’s last song choice (he wowed judges and fans with the Chris Cornell version of “Billie Jean”) has barely died down, and already new musical controversy is springing up.

Now, Cook is on the rocks for his “Eleanor Rigby” arrangement, which he crooned during one of the show’s Beatles weeks. Seattle-based band Doxology has come forward claiming the arrangement Cook performed on March 11 was actually theirs, though no credit was given to the band. In a recent press release, the band says they do not want royalties (monies they would have been entitled to had they been given credit for the arrangement performed on air), but recognition. Since Cook did not step forward and say he used another band’s arrangement, there is an implication that he created the fresh sound himself, and Doxology says this is not the case. FOX officials have not yet commented on these events.

Robert Downey Jr. Plays a Black Man in Next Role

Tropic ThunderWhile many have been oohing and ahhing over the pics of . as Iron Man, its his work in a less splashy flick that may generate the most talk.

In the upcoming movie, Tropic Thunder, Downey plays an actor who plays a black man in a film he is shooting.  Instead of rewriting a role originally written for an African-American, Robert’s character, Kirk Lazarus, opts to go the method route and dyes his skin.  (You can see him in the picture next to Jack Black.)

This movie already came with buzz attached to it long before Downey’s role was revealed.  This was the film Owen Wilson was attached to at the time of his suicide attempt.

So what do you think?  Should this role be considered controversial? Should it simply be taken into context?  Should we just be happy that it’s not 1986’s Soul Man?

Why American Idol Let David Hernandez Stay

American Idol, David HernandezYesterday, we told you about the latest controversy surrounding ‘s David Hernandez.  (To summarize quickly:  he was a male stripper/dancer who performed fully nude for mostly male clients.)

Given Idol‘s decision to boot frontrunner Frenchie Davis off the show back in 2003 (after news of her racy lingeries photos leaked out), it was reasonable for people to worry about Hernandez’s fate.  But in an interview with TV Guide, executive producer Ken Warwick made it (surprisingly) clear that the issue was a non-issue.

Here are some choice quotes from that Q&A:

When asked if David Hernandez’s fate would be affected by the revelation:
“No, it won’t make any difference. The truth is, we’re never judgmental about what people do to earn a living. They’ve got to put food in people’s mouths.”

When asked if he knew about David’s past:
“No, I wasn’t. But the truth of the matter is, it wouldn’t have made any difference. “

Big Brother 9: More Headaches Emerge for CBS

Posted by Jacci Lewis Categories: Prime Time, Reality, CBS, Showtime, News,

BB9 Crazy James is getting a lot of publicity for this season but so far it has been for all the wrong reasons. One contestant’s past as a gay porn actor is making headlines while an offensive term used by another on the show has lead Lowe’s to yank its advertising during the broadcast.

First, it has been confirmed with only a lazy and totally NSFW search of the internet that house guest “Crazy” has appeared in several gay adult videos prior to the show. The 21-year old Sarasota, Florida man is also reportedly an ex-stripper. No big deal except his bio on the Big Brother 9 website claims he is a single, straight man who was recently engaged to an older woman. This season of Big Brother 9, subtitled ‘Til Death Do You Part has house guests paired up with another person who might be their “soul mate”. (So far it’s not looking like any of the house guests have made a love connection in fact some of them absolutely hate the person they are paired up with.) James’ partner on the show is Chelsia, a college student from Iowa. So far the two of them have gotten along quite well though not romantically.

James past emerged front and center earlier this week when Dirtyboyvideo.com began promoting videos Zinkand made for them on its home page.

Big Brother 9: Autism Group Demands Apology From CBS

Posted by Jacci Lewis Categories: Prime Time, Reality, CBS, News,

Big Brother 9 AdamUPDATE: CBS officials issued the following statement in regards to controversial statements made about children with developmental disabilities by a house guest on Big Brother 9:

“We certainly find the statements made by Adam to be offensive, but believe they were countered by the immediate reaction of shock and condemnation from a fellow houseguest, Sheila [Kennedy]. Adam’s remarks would not have been permitted to air unchallenged.”

An offensive comment made by one of the contestants on TV’s has a national autism group demanding an apology from . Even more troubling, the man who made the comment is described on CBS’ website as a public relations manager for a Florida-based autism group.

The comment was made during the Season 9 premiere last Tuesday. John Gilmore, executive director of a different group called , says he has been trying to talk to CBS about the gaffe since the show aired but has had no luck. Now the group is trying to convince CBS advertisers to turn up the heat on the network.

The incident in question happened while , who says he works for the (UNIAF), was talking about how he would spend his Big Brother winnings. He told his partner on the show, Sheila, that he would use them to open a hair salon for people with developmental disabilities “so them retards can get it together and get their hair done.” The politically-insensitive word shocked Sheila, a 45-year-old former Penthouse Pet. She immediately demanded that he not use that term. Jasinski simply replied that he works with disabled kids all day long so it is okay.

All Dogs Go To Ellen: An Opinion

Ellen sobs over IggyWhen I first started writing this, I had every intention of trashing talk show meltdown from earlier this week. My thoughts on the subject have, however, changed somewhat. Despite this, I do still feel that Ellen’s sob story during the opening moments of her daytime talk show were ridiculous. To tell your audience that you can’t be funny and do your show as usual because “things are going so terribly wrong right now” seems to be a little - er - melodramatic. This isn’t the week following September 11, 2001. There hasn’t been some horrible death in your family. You haven’t been stricken with an incurable illness - deal with it. More horrible things have happened.

With that said, I move on with my thoughts.
