Jolie Dishes on Career, Family, and Brad

Angelina Jolie recently sat down with Marie Claire and Esquire magazines to talk about her life and the recent rumors that have cast suspicion on her happy relationship with Hollywood hunk Brad Pitt. Jolie told her interviewer that Pitt is often the more cautious and health-conscious one in the couple, providing a staying influence when Angelina wanted to walk around the property she purchased in Cambodia (which had to be de-mined for safety). Angelina also took the time to de-bunk break-up rumors that have surrounded her well-publicized relationship with , saying the two of them have reached their “comfort zone.” She says that right now, the two of them are very focused on the children (“changing diapers” – direct quote) and have little time for the reports that say they’re heading for Splitsville. They spend most of their time at home and plan to have even more time together in their “later years.”

Is Tyra Banks a Sociopath?

Tyra BanksI’m not a psychologist or a psychiatrist; my training in that department goes only up to and including my Psych 101 class freshman year at Cornell.  I’m just somebody who watches a bunch of TV, and watches clip shows like “The Soup” which boils down even more TV for me.  All this having been said however, let me say this: I think Tyra Banks is a sociopath.

That’s not a value judgment at all.  I guess it’s not technically a mental health judgment either because of my aforementioned lack of psychological training.  But here’s the thing: I’ve been watching Top Model for a few seasons now, I’ve seen many clips of her talk show (I tried sitting through a whole episode and I just … yeah, no), and something’s always bothered me about Ty Ty Baby and I could never quite put my finger on it.  Finally, though, when I saw Tyra salute herself on her talk show for being a trailblazer in African-American history (she was the first person of color to appear as the cover girl on the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition), it all came to me.

She’s not just a narcissist; Tyra Banks has absolutely no sense of empathy.  Having no ability to empathize is what (many websites tell me) catapults someone from simple narcissism to sociopathy.

Why MTV Reality Shows Make Us Feel Good

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Reality, Cable, Editorial, Gossip,

MTV JuviesLike Britney and Anna Nicole self-destructing in tandem, MTV has put out two new “reality” shows about kids who have made and are making some really horrible decisions: “Juvies” and “Engaged and Underage.”

So, full disclosure, I am, in fact, engaged, though not underage, and I have an extensive juvenile record that has, thankfully, been expunged.  Just kidding, I was a big ol’ goody two shoes, but I’ve recently realized that I am the target audience for both shows, and, really, just about all of MTV’s reality programming.

Why, you ask (as your coworkers stare at you, because why the hell are you talking to a computer screen)?  Because the purpose of MTV’s reality shows is not to give you a glimpse into the lives of others (as it is in … well, all right, that’s the stated goal of most reality shows, even though it rarely happens that way).  Nope, MTV’s reality shows are for one reason and one reason alone: to make you feel better about your life.

Anna Nicole Attends Her Last Party

Anna Nicole FuneralThough the Anna Nicole Smith case still hasn’t been put to rest (nothing about Anna’s estate or her baby daughter has been decided), Anna herself will finally be put to rest Friday, March 2, 2007. The beautiful former model/reality TV star will be buried next to her son in the Bahamas, wearing a custom-made gown for the occasion. The very public funeral will give all those who cared about Anna the chance to mourn, but the event promises some surprises for fans, as well. According to insiders, an “undisclosed singer” will perform at Anna Nicole Smith’s funeral. The song that will be sung has also not been disclosed, nor whether or not this will be a previously unheard musical event. Who will sing? What will they sing? For some reason, Anna always manages to just raise more questions. At least some of the mystery will be solved tomorrow, when Anna is finally put to rest.

Paris Celebrates 26 With a Big Bash – Again

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: NBC, Gossip,

Paris HiltonThough the famous party girl Paris Hilton celebrated her 26th birthday with a big Las Vegas bash, she threw another party over the weekend for those friends who couldn’t make it to her first one. Well, for her friends and for herself - Paris loves to party. The celebutante opened her Hollywood Hills home (an extravagant pad filled with Paris pictures and an actual stripper pole right in the living room) and let the pink drinks flow from the bar for her crowd of friends and hangers-on. Red bull, Pinky Vodka, and AsomBroso Pink Tequila were liberally poured to party guests, who were on hand when Paris’s huge, present-shaped birthday cake was wheeled out among oohs and ahhs. Chocolates and other sweet treats circulated as Paris danced the night away. Paris told Extra that her favorite birthday present came from boyfriend Stavros Niarchos, an elegant (read “expensive”) bracelet for her wrist. Many of Paris’s usual guests were on hand, from sister Nicky Hilton to Stavros, Brandon Davis, and her publicist Elliott Mintz. Other guests included American Idol judge Paula Abdul, wrestler turned movie hunk The Rock, and Ryan Reynolds.

What Went Wrong at the Oscars?

Oscars Though the 79th Annual Academy Awards were scheduled to take three hours (not including all the pre-coverage and after-coverage, of course), it actually ran almost one hour longer. What went wrong at the Oscars this year? Was it long-winded speeches (many of which were cut off by the music), unimportant backstage coverage, somewhat tedious tributes? The entire broadcast was just shy of the four-hour mark at three hours and fifty-two minutes, which many fans dutifully sat through just to hear which flick won Best Picture. Though host Ellen DeGeneres tried to liven the broadcast up with humor, a lot of it (even her banter) was tedious and seemed to take for ever. Without all the extras, the Academy Awards could run like clockwork, instead of putting audiences to sleep.
