Twilight Soundtrack Tops Music Charts

Twilight SoundtrackThe second phase of domination is officially complete.

Now that we’re just eight days away from the big-screen adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s novel, it’s becoming increasingly impossible to avoid anything with Robert Pattinson’s face on it. The mania over the best-selling book has inspired collector’s edition magazine covers (EW), news packages (Nightline) and sight-seeing tours (Forks, WA). It’s even evolved into a #1 album.

After two turns at the top of the charts, AC/DC’s Black Ice was just dethroned by the soundtrack for the vampire-themed movie. Although Twilight is now the third soundtrack this year to reach #1 (following and Mamma Mia!), it’s the only one since 2006’s Sing-a-Longs and Lullabies for Curious George to debut there.

Twilight - which includes tracks from Linkin Park, Muse and Paramore - sold 165,000 units last week. AC/DC came in second with 160,000 while came in third with 110,000.

David Cook

He won national media attention, the love of thousands of new fans and the highly-coveted title of season seven’s . What could possibly beat any of these huge life achievements? David Cook’s Billboard results, that’s what.

Eleven songs hit the Billboard Hot 100 song chart this week - the most new tunes from any performer in the fifty year span the list has existed. “The Time of My Life,” which Cook crooned at the Idol finale, is Cook’s biggest hit of the week. The tune debuted on the chart in the number 3 position. Other Cook tunes listed include his rendition of “Dream Big” (15) and “I’m Alive” (99). He may not be at number one, but he certainly isn’t doing too bad, either.

Mariah Carey Edges Past Elvis

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Music,

Put-Description-HereAlthough I knew this day would eventually come, I still have a hard time believing it’s finally happened.  has just now surpassed The King.

Mariah’s latest single, Touch My Body, just became the Number One song on Billboard’s Hot 100.  This achievement gives the 38-year-old singer a total of eighteen #1 hits on those charts, edging her right past Elvis Presley.  (He was holding reign at 17.)  With a few more years under her belt, she may one day pass as well.  (The Fab Four clock in at 20 toppers.)

While I will fully admit that I like many of Carey’s songs, I find it strange to even think of her musical library being in the same realm as those two legends.  Will her songs eventually stand the test of time?  Which one of her singles could possibly compare to something like Let It Be or Can’t Help Falling in Love?

Carey’s next album, E=MC2, will be released on April 16.

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Talent, Rumors,

Kid Rock  Kid Rock will release his first album after a four-year recording studio hiatus, titled Rock’n’Roll Jesus, this October. The rock-rapper has emphasized rock on his album, leaving a lot of his hard core rapping on the shelf for this new release. Tracks include a song titled Amen, as well as other ballad-type songs. Rock’s album features motown, country, and even gospel influences, creating a mix that’s unlike many of the Kid’s other albums. Rock’s promotional tour for the album will begin soon, carrying on until well into 2008. Rock’s last album debuted at number 8 on the Billboard 200 in 2003.
