Cuba To Permit Computers
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Home Entertainment, Smart Home, PC / Laptop,
Who knew something that we take for granted has been banned for years in other countries? Cuba is now allowing unrestricted sale of computers, DVD players and VCRs. They are also allowing air conditioners, toasters, and other small appliances after 2010, which were prohibited because of limited power resources. New pres Raul Castro said, “The country’s priority will be to meet the basic needs of the population, both material and spiritual.”
Ironically, even though the country is now free to buy computers, the government still controls Internet access.

Brightly colored LEDs pop up and give you 5,000 lux to soothe your eyes. The system also purifies the air and provides you with three different types of cartridges for aromatherapy. Wake up tomorrow to the sound of your own personal servant. The Butler Alarm Clock is available in a his or hers model and features over 150 wake-up calls. After a bit of chirping bird, a very English voice says such things as,
“Good Morning Sir, I’m so sorry to disturb you Sir, but it appears to be morning.”
The distinctive timepiece also has a 90-second relaxation message before you hit the sack. The best part is you don’t even have to pay him. You will, however, have to shell out $135.00 for the clock.

If you really want to wow the neighbors, add a Tempest Gas Torch to your porch or patio. The effect is somewhat magical, for the flame inside the ceramic glass spirals around instead of simply flaring up. Recommended for mounting anywhere outside, Travis Industries is hoping that everyone will want their own Tempest. We dig the cleverness of the design and want to know what it will do with/to marshmallows. Contact them for price and availability.

We keep our CDs in shoe boxes for the most part, but if you like to be a little more discerning, we found two new cases that will cheer up your shelves. At the a size of 14.17 x 5.71 x 5.04-inches and a weight of just over 27 oz., the Mini-Van Style Case holds 40 CDs for $25.79. On its box is the description as having a “unique patented design (that) ensures motion device works smoothly, slowly, silently.” While we believe this to be a comment on its opening and closing, you just never know. If you want something a little less expensive, you can opt for the Hamburger 12 CD Flannel Storage Bag that has a 7-inch diameter and weighs about as much as a real Quarter Pounder for $4.95.

For years people have saved their pets through taxidermy, including Roy Rogers, who had Trigger and Bullet stuffed and placed in his museum. Now, thanks to a So. Korean company, you can have your pup forever immortalized by cloning. RNL Bio will gratefully accept your $150,000 and claims that there is a 25% possibility of success. Seoul National University will be performing the actual procedure and although RNL prefers creating guard dogs, they won’t turn down a beloved pet. While this is a nice idea if you adored your dog, you might want to double think the idea if he/she was hesitant to become housebroken when a puppy.

Researchers have devised a machine that can analyze the flavor of coffee. With a built-in electronic taster, it can determine more than 1,000 substances that go into java’s aroma by studying its gases. So far the scientists feel that it can assess espresso as well as its human counterpart. Switzerland’s Christian Lindinger and his team will report their findings in the March issue of Analytical Chemistry. We can’t wait until they place one into a Denny’s and tell them that the coffee they use in pre-packaged containers are probably double the amount of grounds that they need.
