If you want to be the opitome of cool while sitting in the back of the class, you need this. What better insult is there than beaning the teacher in the back of the head with an airplane bearing the visage of Michael Knight himself, David Hasselhoff? The answer is simple: None.

Michigan State University researchers are working on a remote breast exam machine, allowing women to have exams without having to physically be at the doctors office. This is great for those in remote locations. The doctor would use a glove on their end, which would control the robot in the remote location. The apparatus would send information visually back to the doctor so that they could diagnose, and would also allow for audible communication between both parties.

This crazy looking lamp, designed by Matty Salin, has a rather interesting function. By placing your hands on the lamp base, it will detect your heartbeat within 10 seconds and begin to pulse along with your heart. The idea is to amplify a usually inconspicuous biological function, and give the user a biofeedback handle with which to control it. The light is hypnotic, and after a while you can actually watch your pulse slow down by concentrating and relaxing. Leet.
No word on price/availability, but you can check out a movie of it in action here - QuickTime required.

Steve Rubel, PR extraordinaire, made mention of the simplehuman Trash Can on during his talk at Gnomedex. Interestingly enough, he said that it is a $200 trash can, which sparked some applause from the audience. Going even further, he said that the lid opens and closes “like a Lexus”. I know that is has a wide opening, and it is brushed stainless steel, matching all the Mac gear you have in your office. There is even a noise dampener on the lid to make sure no one hears you trashing anything, and the liner lifts out for easy cleaning.

The discovery store just dropped what is quite possibly the most ridiculous gadget yet - the LED pet water bowl - on the unsuspecting masses. I had no idea such a thing could exist - nor do I really know why such a thing needs to exist. It’s a pet water bowl that has a ring of green LED’s (what - not blue?) surrounding the top that light up when the bowl is less than 1/4 full. I mean really - can’t people tell if the bowl has water in it by looking at it? Do they really need to spend extra money to add lights? Not to mention that Rover would be pretty freaked out by the concept of drinking from a bowl that lit up and blinked at him. Then again, maybe that is reason enough to give it a buy.

CNN reports on a Welsh designer that’s coming up with another useful advancement in technology in sportswear. The “Smart Goggles” designer Katie William’s has come up with a small heads up display in the goggle lens to keep track of laps and time the swimmer. I’m hoping this gets adapted quickly into sunglasses for running, biking, and other sports. Then we can get all, you know, Predator on you.

If you have an extra 109,000 Euros lying around - that would be just a tad over $132,000 USD - you may be interested to know that you can buy a lovely cave that has been turned into a habitable home in the province of Granada, bread oven included. Seriously, what’s not to like about living in a cave? I mean, aside from having crappy cell reception and weak WiFi.

According to the Associated Press, college grads majoring in Computer Science are choosing alternate career paths than that of their major. The reason for this is the dull and un-challenging daily routines of the programming life. Of course there are those that like that lifestyle, some programming jobs that are actually interesting, and other jobs that require programming as part of the job and not the main job. Are college students really making the shift? As a current Computer Science major, I have seen people drop the major and others come back to this degree plan – same as any other college major. What do you guys think? Are college grads really losing interest?
