MIA: I’m Madonna and Johnny Rotten

M.I.A. believes she is a cross between Madonna and Sex Pistols singer Johnny Rotten.

The "Paper Planes" hitmaker - real name Mathangi Arulpragasam - says as an artist she is like the "Material Girl" singer as she can create all different types of music, but she has a rebellious side like punk rocker Rotten, real name John Lydon.

"People come up to me and say, 'Oh my God it's a thin line, you could either be Madonna or Jonny Rotten' ... I'm both, that's what it is," she said in an interview with UK station BBC Radio 1.

M.I.A. has previously collaborated with Madonna on the track "Give Me All Your Luvin" on her 2012 album MDNA. However, their relationship was soured when M.I.A. caused controversy by flipping her middle finger at a camera their performance at the Super Bowl XLVI NFL half-time show in February 2012, an action Madonna described as "negative" and "out of place."

John Lydon Wants ‘No Part’ in Sex Pistols Reissue

John Lydon has distanced himself from the reissue of The Sex Pistols' anti-monarchist song "God Save the Queen."

The group's frontman believes rereleasing the track in time for Britain's Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee "undermines" what they initially stood for when they first released the track in 1977 to coincide with the monarch's Silver Jubilee.

"I would like to very strongly distance myself from the recent stories and campaign to push 'God Save the Queen' for the number one spot. It is certainly not my personal plan or aim. I am proud of what The Sex Pistols achieved and always will be but this campaign totally undermines what The Sex Pistols stood for. This is not my campaign. I am pleased that the Sex Pistols recordings are being put out there for a new generation, however, I wish for no part in the circus that is being built up around it," John said in a statement.

John Lydon Thinks Coldplay and Radiohead are Soulless

John Lydon - also known as the Sex Pistols’ Johnny Rotten - has accused two hugely successful bands of lacking “heart and soul.”

“Coldplay and Radiohead bug the hell out of me because it’s so soulless. It just seems pointless. It’s nice but it’s tosh. They don’t care about you. They care about lining their coffers,” he fumed to BBC radio station 6 Music. “There’s nothing about heart and soul, they don’t know about heart and soul, they don’t know about people dying, living and aspiring.”

The punk singer’s offhand opinion may not be entirely founded, as Radiohead famously released their last album, In Rainbows, to fans on a pay-what-you-like basis - with many choosing to pay nothing.
