Madonna on her MDNA tourMadonna has canceled plans to tour Australia.

The 53-year-old singer was expected to play in Sydney and Melbourne early next year - although no dates had been confirmed - but she will now wind up her tour in support of new album MDNA in December.

"Madonna's tour will end in South America in December as planned. That's all we can say," a spokesperson said. Stadiums in the two cities were believed to have been booked prior to the canceled plans.

Meanwhile, the singer began the latest leg of the tour in the UK at London's Hyde Park on Tuesday night. Madonna opened with a performance of single "Girl Gone Wild" before playing an MDNA-heavy set, occasionally airing classic tracks including "Papa Don't Preach," "Express Yourself" and "Like a Prayer."

While she has twice unveiled her breast during performances, the London show was more sedate, although she did briefly pull down her trousers to reveal her buttocks.

Madonna Kicks Off World Tour

MadonnaMadonna kicked off her world tour in Israel on Thursday night.

The 53-year-old singer launched her MDNA concert series with a spectacular show at Tel Aviv's Ramat Gan Stadium, where she wished peace on the Middle East.

"I chose to start my world tour in Israel for a very specific and important reason. As you know, the Middle East and all the conflicts that have been occurring here for thousands of years - they have to stop," she told the cheering crowd.

During the concert, Madonna also took a swipe at Lady Gaga, who was accused of copying her song "Express Yourself" for her recent hit "Born This Way." At the end of a performance of "Express Yourself," which she had reworked to include a sampling of "Born This Way," and Madonna yelled, "She's not me!"

Madonna Hires Lourdes Clone for Tour

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Concerts / Tours, Gossip, Rumors, Pop,

Madonna and LourdesMadonna has hired a lookalike of her daughter Lourdes to throw the paparazzi off-scent during her forthcoming MDNA world tour.

The "Hung Up" singer - who has also taken on five clones for herself - took the drastic step of getting a body double for her 15-year-old daughter following advice from Lourdes' father Carlos Leon.

"Carlos suggested hiring a Lourdes lookalike to take the pressure off the teenager," a source said.

The move has apparently worked wonders for Madonna's relationship with her first-born - who recently upset her famous mother when she was photographed smoking. "Things have been tense and difficult between Madge and Lourdes. Madge is tense and overworked in preparation for the biggest tour of her life, while Lourdes is establishing her independence and trying to make her own mark on the industry. But they have bonded over finding the perfect girl to pretend to be Lourdes. It's been a lot of fun. Lourdes thinks it's cool to have a doppelganger because it makes her feel important," the source told The Daily Star.

The tour kicks off on May 29 in Tel Aviv.

Madonna Set for Huge Sales Drop

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: The Charts, Pop,

MadonnaMadonna's latest album is set to have the biggest second week sales drop in chart history.

The 53-year-old singer's new record MDNA debuted at the top of the US album charts last week after achieving sales of 359,000. However, according to Forbes, in its second week of release, sales fell to approximately 46,000, making it a record-breaking 88 per cent fewer copies sold.

Reports say Madonna's first-week sales were inflated by CDs that were bundled with the purchase of concert tickets for her upcoming tour. According to The Hollywood Reporter, 185,000 copies of MDNA were sold as part of the ticket package deal, meaning that only 179,000 were individual album sales. Without these ticket package sales, MDNA would have placed at Number two on the charts behind Lionel Richie's Tuskegee, which achieved 199,000 copies that week.

Forbes' Roger Friedman believes Lionel was robbed of the number one position: "That promotion artificially inflated Madonna's numbers, putting her first before Lionel Richie and his Tuskegee album. I do think that all the people involved in the Madonna ticket-CD deal should apologize to Richie for denying him his rightful place at number one."

Madonna Emotional Over Return to Music

MadonnaMadonna "almost cried" when she returned to the recording studio.

The 53-year-old singer took a break from her music career to direct W.E. and although she enjoyed working on the film, she loved going back to the "simplicity" of songwriting for her new album MDNA.

"It's amazing to be back in music. I like the intimacy of a recording studio and song writing. I'm using a different part of my brain when I work on music versus when I'm directing a film. It's very different. I love doing both, but it was nice to have the simplicity of song writing after three years of writing a script and directing and editing and talking about my film, to sit down and play my guitar and sing a song. I almost cried."

Madonna also said she refuses to listen to other artists' work when she is recording because she needs to work from a "clean slate" with no external influences: "I wasn't listening to anything to tell you the truth when I wrote this. I was working on the soundtrack to my movie W.E. So just classical music. I actually don't like listening to pop music while I'm working on pop music - it doesn't really work. You don't want to hear other people's stuff, you need a clean slate to work off."

Madonna Felt Like ‘Caged Animal’

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Upcoming Releases, Pop,

MadonnaMadonna wrote MDNA because she "felt like a caged animal."

The "Give me all Your Luvin" hitmaker was motivated to make her first album in four years because she was upset with fame and felt like she has something important to say.

"I felt like a caged animal. I felt like I had to scream. I had to get some things off my chest. There's something simple and primal and direct about playing guitar and singing. I still have a lot to say. I still get p****d off about things. And I still believe in love," she said.

She also praised producer William Orbit, who worked on MDNA and has previously collaborated with Madonna on her Music and Ray of Light albums: "Something magical happens when I work with William. He is a tortured soul, and he brings out the tortured soul in me."

Madonna also claimed she's not as "in control" of her career as people perceive her to be.
