Mix Tape: Biopic for Jerry Garcia, New Country Album for Darius Rucker

-A biopic about Jerry Garcia’s early years before the Grateful Dead is in the works. Topper Lilien adapted the screenplay based on Robert Greenfield’s book Dark Star.
-Color Me Badd’s Bryan Abrams was arrested last week in Hawaii after allegedly getting physical with his wife during an argument. The singer, who was booked on suspicion of harassment, was later released on his own recognizance.
-Jazz singer Al Jarreau has been moved out of intensive care after receiving treatment to correct a heart arrhythmia. His tour, which was temporarily halted last week, should resume next Tuesday in Germany.
-It looks like Darius Rucker is sticking with the country music scene. The former Hootie & the Blowfish singer plans to release his next solo album, Charleston, SC 1966, on October 12.

Grateful Dead Hit the Road this Spring

Although Barack Obama is still weeks away from officially taking office, the President-elect can take partial credit for accomplishing one task: getting the Grateful Dead back on the road again.
Speculation about a possible tour began brewing last year after the bandmates reunited for February’s “Deadheads For Obama ‘08” concert in San Francisco. That performance was followed up several months later by another fundraising appearance at October’s “Change Rocks” concert/rally in Pennsylvania.
In a statement, guitarist/singer Bob Weir said the crew had some “unfinished business” to take care of. Bob added, “Everybody has a whole new bag of tricks; we have the body of material we worked up over the years and we have a mind meld going on here and it would be a sin to let that just wither and die.”
