Miley Cyrus at this year's MTV VMAs

Miley Cyrus claims she made history like Madonna and Britney Spears with her performance at the MTV Video Music Awards. The "We Can't Stop" singer made a provocative appearance at the event in New York City last month wearing a skin coloured latex bikini and "twerking" up to Robin Thicke while sticking her tongue out and posing suggestively with a foam hand, but despite provoking outrage she claims the performance will go down as a pivotal moment in the event's history.

"I don't pay attention to the negative because I have seen this play out. How many times have we seen this play out in pop music? You know now ... you know what's happened. Madonna's done it, Britney's done it. Every VMA performance, anyone that performs ... That's what you are looking for. You want to make history. Me and Robin, the whole time, said, 'You know you are about to make history right now?'" she said in an interview with MTV.

Miley Cyrus and Kelly OsbourneKelly Osbourne wished Miley Cyrus had "put her tongue in her mouth" during her performance at the MTV Video Music Awards.

The 28-year-old star has given her close friend some words of advice following her racy appearance with Robin Thicke at the VMAs on Sunday, which featured her twerking and grinding against Robin during their rendition of his hit "Blurred Lines." Miley, 20, also repeatedly licked her lips as she danced in a two-piece, flesh coloured latex bikini and rubbed herself suggestively with a foam finger.

During a special episode of Fashion Police which aired on Monday night, Kelly's co-stars, including Joan Rivers, criticized Miley's risque appearance - which left many famous faces in the audience at the VMAs, such as Taylor Swift and One Direction star Niall Horan, stunned.

Kelly insisted she loved her pal before offering her words of wisdom, saying, "I look at the performance and yes, I do have a lot of the same opinions as you guys about it ... Look Miley's my friend and I love her, and I have her back no matter what, but as her friend I'm going to tell her - put your f***ing tongue in your mouth! I love you, but just put your tongue in your mouth."

Lady GagaLady Gaga only feels truly alive when she's on stage.

The singer - who is set to give her first live rendition of her new single "Applause" from her album ARTPOP at the MTV Video Music Awards in New York City this Sunday - finds meaning to her existence when is performing: "When I'm not on stage I don't feel alive. But when I hit the stage it's like everything that I'm thinking and feeling, where I belong - that's where it is."

I think everyone with their location and their job and what they do, their passion, feel the same way I do. It's sort of like we are endlessly obsessing about what we are creating and then the explosion is the moment where we get to share," she explained.

The pop genius was forced to take time out after hip surgery to correct a tear and breakage inside the joint in February and consequently cancelled the remaining dates on her Born This Way Ball, and now she is very excited about getting back to work.
