Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood face off

Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood and are going head-to-head in this year’s Country Music Television (CMT) Music Awards nominations. Underwood’s “Cowboy Cassanova” is up for both Video of the Year and Female Video of the Year in the award show’s preliminary round of voting - both categories Swift’s “You Belong With Me” is also nominated in. Swift picked up the awards in both categories in both 2008 and 2009 for “Our Song” and “Love Story” respectively. 

Upon receiving the prestigious Best Video award last year, Swift said: “I want to thank Shania Twain for always making such theatrical videos, and Garth Brooks for always putting the fans first. I take my cues from you.”  Swift is also nominated for Collaborative Video of the Year for “Best Days of Your Life” with Kellie Pickler, and two of her videos also get nods to director Roman White in the Director of the Year category.

Underwood also received nominations in the CMT Performance of the Year category for her song “Temporary Home (from Invitation Only)” and two of her videos - by Theresa Wingert and Deaton Flanigen - are also nominated in the Director of the Year section.  Newcomer group, Lady Antebellum also received four nominations including Video of the Year for their song “Need You Now”.
Also nominated in the ‘Best Video’ category - seen as the most prestigious award of the night, which can be awarded to a male, female, group, or collaboration - are Kenny Chesney, Toby Keith, Miranda Lambert, Brad Paisley, and Zac Brown Band. The categories opened for voting by fans recently and will be whittled down to four per category on May 3.
