Which had a bigger visual impact this year? Beyonce‘s “Single Ladies” dance or Lady Gaga’s eccentric outfits?

On September 13, both ladies will have the opportunity to take home 9 Moonmen from this fall’s Video Music Awards. That’s the most nominations for any artist his year. (There are only two categories - Best New Artist and Best Choreography - in which the two don’t compete against each other.)

Another female artist - Britney Spears - has earned the second highest number of mentions for 2009. The pop star is up for 7 awards thanks to her “Womanizer” and “Circus” videos. Meanwhile, Eminem and Kanye - tied for four nominations each - will be facing off in the same categories.
