Transformers director Michael Bay has revealed on his blog that Mark Wahlberg will be replacing Shia LaBeouf in the fourth installment of the alien robot franchise.
"Mark is awesome. We had a blast working on Pain and Gain and I’m so fired up to be back working with him. An actor of his caliber is the perfect guy to re-invigorate the franchise and carry on the Transformers legacy," Bay wrote.
Projected for a June 27, 2014 release, Transformers 4 is expected to take a new direction in the series.
Despite the tremendous boost the franchise gave to his career, LaBeouf is most likely not too sad about being replaced, as he has recently slammed the studio system and has sworn to only pursue independent features.

Michael Bay will direct Transformers 4.
Producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura has confirmed the filmmaker - who was at the help of the first three Transformers movies in the series - will take charge of the blockbuster, which is set to be released in the summer of 2014.
"Yeah Michael's gonna direct and it'll be releasing in the summer of 2014. We're excited and I think the challenge there is we really are gonna do a reboot, and what that's gonna be we don't even know yet," Di Bonaventura said.
But Lorenzo admitted there will be "a lot" of new cast members in the movie as no one from the previous three films has signed up yet: "It's a hybrid because there's still continuity going on, and there will be a lot of new cast. Whether there's anybody from the first cast, we don't even know yet. But it's going to be a whole new story."

Michael Bay to Direct Transformers 4?

Michael Bay is set to return to the Transformers franchise. Despite the director previously claiming he would not be in the frame to direct the rebooted series, the success of the third film Transformers: Dark of the Moon - which took over $1 billion at the international box office - has persuaded him to think again.
According to NYMag.com's Vulture blog, Michael could begin shooting on the project, which will not be a prequel to the original three films starring Shia LaBeouf, in late 2012 following his work on revenge thriller Pain and Gain.
Although details are not known about the story, it is thought it will focus more on the canon of the series and delve into old characters. A source told the blog, "Regular people might not care about bringing out a character like Sentinel Prime. But believe me, fans of the series cared."
Jason Statham is reportedly being considered for the lead role in the fourth film, with active discussions taking part between him and studio Paramount.
