Rihanna was a "natural" in Battleship.
The pop singer makes her movie debut in the forthcoming summer blockbuster alongside Taylor Kitsch and Brooklyn Decker; director Peter Berg was delighted with her performance.
"She was great. She has a very strong part. I was surprised no one had ever thought to hire Rihanna. I was a huge fan of her videos. Obviously she's sexy, but she had this real intensity. I'm like, 'Someone's going to get her.'"
Peter was most impressed by Rihanna's attitude and willingness to learn when they first met to discuss the movie: "When I met with her, she came in a T-shirt and jeans, no makeup, very natural. She was like, 'Look, I want to be an actress. Don't kiss my ass. Don't lie to me. Push me. Treat me as you would any other actor. Help make me good.' She is really, really good in Battleship."

Viggo Mortensen Blasts Editing

Viggo Mortensen believes an actor's performance can be ruined by editing.
The A Dangerous Method actor revealed he was shocked when watching a film he had made to find that the director had cut his lines and put in a whole new sentence by putting together words he had said in other scenes.
''A director decided he didn't like me saying what he had shot and took words I'd said on other scenes and cobbled a new sentence together. I was stunned.''
Filmmaker David Cronenberg who has worked with Viggo on three movies, crime thrillers A History of Violence and Eastern Promises and most recently A Dangerous Method, admitted directors do have the power to completely change an actor's performance in the editing suite: "I spend weeks with the actor in the editing room, looking at every nuance. Even the rhythm of their breathing as they speak. It can really reshape a performance. You hear people say, 'My performance was destroyed in the editing room' It can actually happen."

Elijah Wood is excited to watch The Hobbit as a "fan."
The actor - who returns to play his Lord of the Rings character Frodo Baggins in the Peter Jackson-directed prequel - has shot his scenes for the movie in New Zealand, and is particularly excited about seeing the film because he does not have the "deep knowledge" of what else is being filmed.

Ralph Fiennes felt a lot of pressure making Coriolanus. The 49-year-old actor makes his directorial debut with the Shakespearean adaptation and admits it was hard to juggle helming the project and also acting in it.
"There were days when I thought, 'I haven't got the right performance that I should be giving, but I haven't got time, and I have to move on.' And then, the pressure on the head - Got to move on! And even if you think, 'f**k, f**k, f**k' you can't afford to show it."

George Clooney Couldn’t Relate to Character

George Clooney couldn't relate to his character in The Descendants. The 50-year-old actor plays Matt King - a wealthy man who sets out with his two daughters to find the lover of his ailing wife - in the drama and though he had little in common with his alter ego, he doesn't think that is important.
George - who won Best Actor for his role in the movie at last weekend's Golden Globes - said, "This guy is really going through a phase in his life where he wants to do right by everyone, and I don't know that that would be part of my make-up. He's caught p in a strange place in his life and career. I enjoyed playing the character but I don't know that I can relate to him. But part of my job is to do what is asked of me in the script and not have to worry about whether it pertains to me or not. You don't have to actually shoot heroin to play a drug addict, you know."
He also admitted he fears repeating the same career choices over and over and would regard not varying his decisions as a professional "failure": "My biggest fear is doing the same things 10 years from now. That would be a failure. It's something you have to constantly reassess, and asking yourself what you are going to do next makes it a good long full journey."
Andrew Garfield Dices With Death on Spider-Man

Andrew Garfield had "near death experiences" every day on the set of The Amazing Spider-Man.
The British actor takes over playing the role from Tobey Maguire in the forthcoming prequel - also starring Emma Stone - and he reveals he regularly had to undertake death-defying stunts during the shoot:
"As you can see, a lot of the stunts are practical and grounded in reality. I would exhaust myself every day and get into near-death experiences every hour on the hour. I collaborated with the stunt team not only on the big stunt set-pieces but also on what happens to Peter's body when he gets bitten. What happens to his DNA and how that effects the way he moves."
Emma - who plays Gwen Stacy in the film, and has since gone on to become Andrew's real life girlfriend - has also revealed she enjoyed the kiss they shared on the film. She told a press conference in Japan, "You want to watch the movie and find out. You've got to decide if it's iconic or not. We liked it."
The Amazing Spider-Man is to be released later this year.
Michael Fassbender to Take Mother on Oscar Date

Michael Fassbender wants to take his mother on a date to the Oscars.
The Shame actor - who is widely tipped to be nominated for an Academy Award following a blockbuster year of movies including A Dangerous Method, X-Men: First Class, and Haywire - has his parents to thank for him being able to earn a living prior to making it big, and he would like to take his mum down the red carpet at the event.
"It took me a while to come to grips with how expensive London was. My parents helped me out, but we never had a lot of money. [An Oscar Nomination] would just be a bonus, but of course I would take my mum down the red carpet."
Discussing his role in Shame, the Irish/German star admits he was "worried" about the gravity of playing a man who was dealing with an addiction to sex: "I was a bit worried that I'd perhaps bitten off more than I could chew. But I'm always interested in trying to investigate different personalities. I want to keep myself guessing and keep the fear element alive so that I don't get too comfortable."
Kate Winslet: ‘Male Role Would Be Ultimate Challenge’

Kate Winslet wants to play a man. The 36-year-old actress - who earlier this week won a Golden Globe for her performance in TV mini-series Mildred Pierce - is keen to take on a part of someone as the opposite gender, previously done by stars including Cate Blanchett and Glenn Close, because she believes it would be the "ultimate challenge."
"I would like to one day play a man. That is something that I do know. I don't know what kind of a man, I don't know whether it will ever happen, but I do know I would be really interested because I think that would probably be the ultimate challenge."
Kate has previously claimed she would love to take on the part of the late Dame Elizabeth Taylor - a role both Angelina Jolie and Lindsey Lohan have coveted - and admits the possibility is a massive undertaking: "It's a massive undertaking for anybody who should be fortunate enough to get that part."
Emma Stone to Play Novice Drug Dealer

Emma Stone will play a novice drug dealer in Little White Corvette. The actress has landed one of the lead roles in the forthcoming comedy, which sees a down-on-their-luck sister and brother travel to Miami to sell a bag of cocaine that their late father left in his car.
No other casting information has been released, and GK Films are currently looking for a director to work from Michael Diliberti's script.
Emma - who can be seen in Movie 43, The Amazing Spider-Man and Gangster Squad this year - has previously admitted she has always preferred comedy to drama because of the way she bonded with her father when she was younger: "I think I was drawn to comedy originally because when I was really young, by the time I was eight I had seen movies like The Jerk, Animal House and Planes, Trains and Automobiles with my dad, and I knew them by heart. I loved them and my dad loved them, and we would laugh together, and I would think, 'This is love.' I just wanted to make people feel like that."
Steve McQueen Praises Michael Fassbender

Michael Fassbender is a "once-in-a generation" actor. The Shame star has a "femininity" which helps put him into the same league as Hollywood greats like Marlon Brando and James Dean, according to director Steve McQueen:
"He's a once in a generation actor. Michael's a man's man, but he has a femininity too. A lot of actors today are very masculine. You have to go back to actors like Brando and James Dean to find that combination. His openness is key to him being a great actor."
Although he has played some weighty roles in recent years, such as Northern Irish hunger strike prisoner Bobby Sands in Hunger and sex addict Brendan in Shame, Michael could branch out into action, as he is in the frame for a remake of 1987 movie Robocop, about a former policeman who is murdered and re-created as a crime-fighting cyborg.
"You know, I'm always open. I'll take a look at the script and sit down with the director and have a conversation. It's not definitely like, 'Oh, I've got to play RoboCop before I retire.' I don't have that about anything. I don't go, 'I have to play the Dane one day, or Hamlet.' If I react to the script, then I'm up for anything," Michael said.
