Monsters Inc.: When Toy Story 3 finally comes and goes, we’ll still have another Pixar sequel to look forward to. Disney has just announced that a follow to 2001’s Monsters Inc. is in the works. The feature will premiere on Nov. 16, 2012.
Wanted: Kristen Stewart as a replacement…for Angelina Jolie? The forces behind Wanted 2 are reportedly eyeing the Twilight star for a role in the sequel. (Although they had hoped to bring back Jolie, she has already opted out.) Director Timur Bekmambetov is considering casting Stewart as a “young, ass-kicking assassin in the Fraternity.”

2010 BAFTA Award Winners

Avatar may be the overseas (and domestic) box office champ, but how would it fare with the international voters?
This weekend’s Orange British Academy Film Awards ceremony proved James Cameron’s movie might not be a shoe-in at next month’s Academy Awards. In fact, ex-wife Kathryn Bigelow could see her movie, The Hurt Locker, take the Best Film honor from him.
In total, the gritty war drama collected six statues including the first ever BAFTA for a female director. (Avatar and The Young Victoria both took in two awards each.) Meanwhile, the top acting prizes went to two British stars: Colin Firth (A Single Man) and Carey Mulligan (An Education).

Box Office Breakdown: Avatar Stifled by Blizzard

How big could Avatar‘s debut really been? Thanks to a blizzard, we may never know. James Cameron’s first feature in 12 years pulled in approximately $77 million this weekend, enough to win first place but slightly lower than expectations. The movie, which was produced for around $310 million, never reached its full potential due to weather conditions on the East Coast.
As it was, the movie came in behind 2007’s I Am Legend for the best December opener ever. (The Will Smith film debuted to $77.2 million.) The 3D entry also ranked sixth - behind Star Trek, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and New Moon - for domestic debuts this year.

First Look: KStew and Dakota Rock Out in The Runaways

We’ve seen Kristen Stewart get into character as Joan Jett for the biopic The Runaways—now we actually get to see her flex those vocal chords in the teaser trailer for the film.
The atypical coming-of-age story focuses on Joan Jett’s relationship with band mate Cherie Currie, played by Stewart’s New Moon co-star Dakota Fanning. While there is no release date as of yet, the movie is expected to premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January.

Box Office Breakdown: Princess and Frog Crowned Winner

Disney’s latest entry might not have produced Pixar-like numbers, but it was definitely not a frog.
The Princess and the Frog, featuring the first black Disney princess, finally opened wide this weekend to the tune of $24.2 million. Despite having been available in limited release for two weeks, the 2D-film had the best premiere ever for an animated feature in the month of December.
Meawhile, Invictus - Clint Eastwood’s next possible Oscar contender - unfolded with a $8.6 million debut and a third place finish. Although the Nelson Mandela drama came in behind box office vet The Blind Side, the director’s films tend to generate more buzz (and money) as the awards seasons progress.
