Kristen Stewart to Play Snow White

Storybooks and Kristen Stewart are a perfect match. The dark-haired beauty is filming her last Twilight film even as we pine away for the release of Breaking Dawn, Part I, but the end of Bella is just the beginning for K-Stew. The actress has signed on to play Snow White, another raven-locked storybook heroine.
Stewart will play one of the titular roles in Universal’s Snow White and the Huntsman, one of two Snow White movies currently in the works.
Producer Palak Patel is hoping to set a new tone for the old fairy tale with the casting decision. She explained it all on Twitter: “Clearly, [Kristen Stewart] isn’t right for the upbeat, song-happy Disney version of the character, but this movie is going to be dark and gritty.”
Then, it sounds like K-Stew really is the perfect choice. Stay up-to-date on this and other movie news when you follow FilmCrunch on Twitter.

Fairy tales are in again. Red Riding Hood is poised to make a killing at the box office, two Snow White adaptations are on the way and now, Peter Man is looking for a Hollywood home.
According to rumor, actor Channing Tatum and writer Billy Ray (Shattered Glass, Breach) are shopping around a new take on the old Peter Pan story, something of an origin story for the title character. The project is called Pan. It’s almost certain that one of the studios will snap this project up, particularly if Red Riding Hood draws a big audience when it opens March 11.

Julia Roberts Will Play Snow White’s Evil Queen
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Adaptation, Casting, Celebrity Gossip, Upcoming Releases,
We’ve never really seen her be a villain . . . but, we’re pretty sure she’ll nail it. Hollywood A-lister Julia Roberts has just signed up to play the evil Queen in the new film adaptation of Snow White -- and no, this isn’t voice-over work.
Relativity Media isn’t making this one for young kids and family audiences. Their version of the well-known fairy tale will "will eschew the traditional story in favor of a more modern tale full of comedy and adventure." And while that sounds pretty dismal to us, we’re willing to hold off on judgment and hold out hope. After all, Julia Roberts is involved.
Snow White is about to get a huge boost in popular culture, which may be good news for those who are tired of Disney’s animated 1937 joint. Charlize Theron will play the Queen in Universal's Snow White and The Huntsman, and Disney is also planning a new adaptation of the original German fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm.
Roberts will go to work on the film sometime in April, and it’s scheduled for release in June 2012.
