Billy Zane’s Titanic Typecast

Billy Zane felt "typecast" after he starred in Titanic. The 46-year-old actor - who portrayed Cal Hockley in the 1997 epic drama - admitted while landing such a coveted role in the movie was "a gift," he became "synonymous with playing bad guys" among casting directors immediately afterwards.
"It's a gift for any actor to be part of such a wonderful movie - it was a blessing. But in terms of a curse, Hollywood in particular is notorious for taking less risks for more money. So when it comes to casting in particular, there's quite a bit of type casting. And they always try to make 'last year's movie,' which is a big mistake, instead of 'next year's movie.' I was synonymous with playing bad guys. So it forces you to become a little more inventive and embrace your independence and direct your own movies, and make your own life."
With the Oscar-winning movie re-released on April 6 in state of the art 3D, Billy explained watching Titanic a second time around allowed him to finally feel "sympathy" for his bad boy character:

Joss Whedon was concerned that The Avengers might turn into a "sausagefest."
The 47-year-old director cast Scarlett Johansson in the superhero movie - which sees her reprise her role of Natasha Romanoff / Black Widow from Iron Man 2 - to avoid the film being dominated by its male stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo.

Scarlett Johansson Wants to Direct

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Celeb News, Filmmaking, Upcoming Releases,
Scarlett Johansson wants to direct her own film. The 27-year-old star has been working on her own feature film "for years," and is keen challenge herself.
"I would like to direct a feature. I've been developing it for years. It's good. I just want to work on stuff that's challenging to me, physically, emotionally. I don't want to do anything that doesn't scare me a little bit," she said.
The Avengers actress is looking to play "established" characters in future movies, and she has her sights set on portraying silent film star Norma Desmond in a remake of 1950 movie Sunset Boulevard:
"As I get older I sort of see that I'm able to kind of move away from characters that are transitional. I'm now looking at characters - women - that are established and are where they are because of where they came from and have a background. Actors are always asked to do things that are absolutely ludicrous, whether you're rappelling down the side of a building or crawling through the woods or fulfilling yourself emotionally. I want to play Norma Desmond in Sunset Boulevard someday. But I need a couple more years."
Jorge Garcia Wants Comedy Role

Jorge Garcia would "definitely love" to star in a comedy.
The 38-year-old actor - who is currently portraying Dr. Diego Soto in Fox prison drama Alcatraz - wants to take the humor he injects into his alter-ego in the TV series and play a comic character on the big screen, but admits it is difficult to find funny scripts.
"I definitely would love to do comedy acting. If I like the script then I would absolutely try to get a role. But it's harder to find the comedy scripts that make me laugh and not roll my eyes sometimes," he said.
Jorge admits he has tried to inject some humor into all of his characters to relieve "tension" from the serious dramas: "Mixing humor and dramatic elements of characteristics is definitely the way my characters seem to go. I definitely try to find places to add a little bit of likeness amid all the tension. It tends to be enjoyable."
Taylor Kitsch’s Risky Film Choices

Taylor Kitsch wants to be "scared" by his career choices.
The John Carter actor says it's important for him to take risks with his jobs and take on different characters as he doesn't want to be typecast: "I want to keep working with the best, keep going and be a better actor each time I go and dive into something. I want to be scared. I want to keep taking insane risks. I want to be scared because you're going to grow through that whether you want to or not. I don't want to play the same guy. I want to keep throwing curveballs to you guys and keep telling stories."
As well as concentrating on his career, the former personal trainer says he wants to live a "normal" life in Austin, Texas, after buying a house there.
"When I'm not acting, I try to be normal, play golf, play hockey. It's funny because you're in this little bubble when you're working - you don't read books, you don't really keep up with the news, you're just living that life. When you get out, you just kind of reacquaint yourselves with family and friends. You try and forget and just try and remember what reality feels like."

Bérénice Marlohe's Skyfall character has a "dark side."
The 32-year-old actress is portraying Séverine in the forthcoming James Bond film, and she has enjoyed portraying a Bond Girl because she feels it has allowed her to play a number of different alter-egos in one character.
"The first time you see her, she has a dark side. I think there are a range of colors when playing a Bond girl, whether they are very nice or villainous or psychopaths so it is very interesting because you can try to create your own character based on that. I think is very particular to the James Bond movies. I was convinced that I could bring something interesting as an actress," she said, speaking in a video blog posted on 007.com.
Bérénice stars alongside Naomie Harris, who is portraying field agent Eve in the movie - which sees Daniel Craig reprise his role as James Bond - and the brunette beauty was excited to be taught how to use machine guns ahead of shooting the film.

Michael Fassbender’s Physical Robot

Michael Fassbender found it difficult to play a computer with emotions in Prometheus.
The X-Men: First Class actor portrays a leading role in the Ridley Scott-directed movie - alongside Charlize Theron and Noomi Rapace - and admits it is hard to play an "advanced" version of a human in the movie.
"He's hyper-intelligent. His physicality is more advanced than human beings. So, people don't really embrace him. He's sort of used and abused. How does that make him feel, if robots can feel? You're essentially trying to build a computer that has a physicality to it, that can respond and understand human behavior. It's programmed to be able to incorporate itself within a human environment. I just try and explore what's happening within the scene, moment to moment," he said.

Tom Hardy’s Mad Max Beard

Tom Hardy has grown a beard because the new Mad Max film shows the character in "his wild days."
The British actor is portraying character Max Rockatansky in Mad Max: Fury Road - the fourth film in the franchise - and confirms he has grown "big and bushy" facial hair because of part of the storyline.
"The beard is to make me look handsome. Really, it's because I'm about to play Mad Max in the new film and we start the shoot by showing him in his wild days. It's going to be really big and bushy - what I have now is only the start," he said.
The Dark Knight Rises star has always wanted to sport some fuzz on his face but has always been stopped in the past because his movie character's have required clean shaves.
"I've always wanted a beard, but I've never been able to have a proper one because I was always having to shave it off for my next role. But at last the stars are aligning for me to grow one and work at the same time."
Kate Beckinsale Likes All Her Co-Stars

Kate Beckinsale has been lucky with her movie co-stars.
The Contraband actress has starred alongside actors including Mark Wahlberg, Ben Affleck and Josh Hartnett in her career and says they have all helped to make things easier for her on set.
"I've been very lucky with my co-stars in my career. If you don't like your co-star it doesn't by any means follow that you can't do a good performance with them - co-stars who don't get along in real life quite often have really great on-screen chemistry. But it is much more pleasant and a great deal more fun if you do like them."
Kate also revealed she took on the part in Contraband because it is so different from her usual type of role: "Although it's an action movie, my character is different from those I usually play in those films. She's not a fighter, she's just a normal, nice working-class woman, a hairdresser from New Orleans, happily married with two children."
Scarlett Johansson Loves a Challenge

Scarlett Johansson likes to get "down and dirty" in her work.
The We Bought A Zoo actress - who plays zookeeper Kelly Foster alongside Matt Damon in the new movie - admitted she is "up for every kind of challenge" and likes to get stuck in when she takes on a new role.
"I think I'm up for every kind of challenge and I like to get down and dirty, yes. I really liked that aspect of Kelly, that she is a no-frills kind of girl, very grounded and practical, with that salt of the earth quality. That's the body language I created for her too; she's comfortable in her body and in her stance."
However, the 27-year-old beauty explained she has developed a "hard shell" in order to cope with the constant "batterings" she has suffered in the film industry: "I learned at a really young age that you have to have something of a hard shell to take some of the batterings that you get in this industry. We're constantly rejected and scrutinized and it's important to take a lot of it with a pinch of sale in order to be able to survive and press on."
