Pirates of the Caribbean: On Strangers Tides Trailer

So a Johnny Depp/Angelina Jolie pairing didn't exactly equate to a box office hit. But what would you get if you had Depp, a (pregnant) Penelope Cruz, mermaids, zombies and Blackbeard? A future  Disney hit.

Just a few days ago, the studio released the first pictures from Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. Now, we're getting a chance to see Captain Jack Sparrow in action.

Even if he fails to locate the Fountain of Youth, I doubt Depp will fail to debut in first place again. (At least not while he's wearing eyeliner.)

On Stranger Tides will open on May 20.

How Johnny Depp Scared Disney

Actor Johnny Depp recently spoke to Vanity Fair about working with Angelina Jolie on The Tourist, doing movies for Disney and how he dealt with the paparazzi while he was filming.

Although Depp earned an Oscar nod for playing Captain Jack Sparrow in Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean, the powers-that-be at Disney weren’t exactly excited with his performance. The actor said on-set Disney execs “couldn’t stand” what he was doing with the character -- one person even asked if Sparrow was gay.

The actor’s answer? “All my characters are gay.” Depp said his response made the exec who asked “nervous.”

But Depp is used to taking things in stride. He spoke about filming with Angelina Jolie for The Tourist, which comes out next month, and said the paparazzi really hounded her. To avoid rumors, the two actors stayed far apart for the duration.

Johnny Depp: Hollywood’s Newest Vampire

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Adaptation, Horror, Remakes, Casting,

He’s played crazy, he’s played brilliant, he’s even played opposite Angelina Jolie -- and now, Johnny Depp is ready to make us fall in love with the vampire craze all over again.

Depp will star in Dark Shadows, a big screen version of the series that originally ran on ABC from 1966 to 1971.

In its time, Shadows was an unprecedented show that featured ghosts, witches, werewolves and many other supernatural elements, not to mention a revolving door of actors. The series hit its stride with the introduction of Barnabas Collins, a vampire played by Jonathon Frid.

Depp and longtime pal/director Tim Burton were both fans of the series. (Are you surprised?) Speaking of which, the duo will come back together for the flick. Burton plans to direct Depp in the role of Collins … just as soon as he’s finished playing a rum-soaked, bowlegged pirate for Disney.

First Look: Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp in The Tourist

+ (another) “Sexiest Man Alive” = box office heat.

Later this year, Brad Pitt’s significant other can be seen with in The Tourist, a thriller directed by Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck (The Lives of Others). In the film, Angelina plays an Interpol agent who purposely ropes in an American tourist (Depp) into her game of mistaken identity. (Of course, I doubt she really had to try that hard.)

opens on December 10—right in the middle of the busy holiday season.

VIDEO: Captain Jack Sparrow Delivers Message to Comic-Con

The film may not open until next year, but it’s never too early to start drinking rum.

In this clip that debuted at , Captain Jack Sparrow (a.k.a. Johnny Depp) gives audiences a hint - or does he? - about what we should expect from during the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean installment.

“You may have also heard whisperings and rumors that Jack Sparrow will be recruiting a crew to undertake a voyage to the Fountain of Youth. Not true, course not. But even if it weren’t not true, you wouldn’t be interested in joining me - would you? Eh? No, thought not. I do admit that there’d be varied and substantial dangers along the way including, but not limited, to zombies, cutthroats, mermaids, and the vicious and vivacious - which is why I’m not going. Impossible to find the place anyway. No one knows where it is. Plus, I’d have to have a bloody map…or a Bloody Mary…or both.”

Box Office Breakdown: Jennifer Lopez Needs a Back-up Plan

The Back-Up Plan

Jennifer Lopez’s recent performance at the box office - like her number at the American Music Awards - wasn’t exactly flawless.

, Lopez’s first major release since 2005, was not what moviegoers had planned for their few days off. The romantic comedy, which co-stars Alex O’Loughlin, earned a lackluster $12.2 million in ticket sales and a seat behind the five-week-old How to Train Your Dragon.

CBS Films did have one thing to brag about though: it’s movie performed better than any new wide release this weekend. (Granted, that isn’t saying much.) - an actioner featuring a large ensemble of actors - wrangled up a disappointing $9.4 million for fourth place. While that was enough to surpass last week’s champ, Kick-Ass, the two films were only separated by about $400,000. Meanwhile, Oceans, Disney’s nature documentary, landed in 8th place with $6.1 million.
