Coming October 21st of this year, the movie based on the highly popular video game, Doom, will be released and awaited eagerly by fans of the game to witness first hand if it will leave you in awe or feeling you were just ripped off when the movie ticket was purchased. The website to the movie is finally online and sports some information, a wallpaper of the logo, some pictures and a download link to IGN’s exclusive movie teaser trailer. So far the trailer looks promising, but of course that’s the whole point. We’ll just have to wait a bit longer to decide weather this movie will be worth watching or if getting some sleep would be more enjoyable – and less expensive.

EA and Valve Team Up

There’s one more notch on EA’s belt now that Valve has signed an agreement with EA to allow the company to deliver its award wining games to its gaming audience. This means that EA will be publishing and distributing the Half-Life 2 version for the Xbox later this year, Half-Life 2: Game of the Year and Counter-Strike: Source for PC. Valve will still be selling online versions of their games via their website – SteamPowered.com. Is EA trying to take over the gaming world or do they just want a piece of the pie that is Half-Life 2 and Counter-Strike?

If you own a modded Xbox and have been playing Halo 2 on Xbox Live I invite you all to log in to Xbox Live and install the latest update. That’s right, fire up your Xbox, load up your copy of Halo 2, log in to Xbox Live, download the update and be BANNED! Bungie has released its latest update and without it you cannot play Halo 2 on Xbox Live. This update is to rid most of the people using mods on Halo 2 – I say most, because there is no doubt someone will come up with some way to go around it. For now, I once again invite you all to install the update.
Q: What will happen to a player if his or her Xbox contains modded content?
A: You will be banned if you are detected playing our game with modified Halo 2 content. Your ban will be from matchmaking, it will be permanent, and there will be no appeal process.

Rockstar Stops Production of GTA: San Andres Amidst AO Rating

How a major corporate gaming presence like Rockstar could overlook something like this is beyond me. Nonetheless, on the heels of all the Hot Coffee controversy regarding the GTA sex scene, the ESRB has revoked the game’s “M” rating and has instead rebranded it with the AO 18+ label. Now, this is a big blow as most retailers refuse to carry any game that is rated Adult Only. In light of the ESRB’s decision, Rockstar Games has announced that they have stopped production of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.
Rockstar Games has ceased manufacturing of the current version of the title and will begin working on a version of the game with enhanced security to prevent the “hot coffee” modifications. This version will retain the original ESRB M-rating and is expected to be available during the Company’s fourth fiscal quarter. Rockstar Games will be providing AO labels for retailers who wish to continue to sell the current version of the title.
Take A Stand Against Cheating

Cheating and mods on multiplayer online enabled games are nothing new to the PC realm of online gaming; however, they are not one in the same to Xbox Live. When playing online multiplayer games on the PC, a host acts as a moderator to the games and is able to kick out anyone he or she sees that are cheating or using a mods in such a way as to give them an advantage over the rest of the players. Xbox Live, however, does not work in that fashion – that luxury is only limited to custom game types. Xbox Live’s, or XBL for short, greatest strength is also its greatest downfall when it comes to cheating and mod use.

Burnout is one of those games that is just plain fun to play - and keep playing. Its stylized destruction-centric gameplay approach is always a blast – even if you only play it to cause the AI’s cars to crumble into pieces. Burnout: Revenge is the sequel many people are waiting for which will be released later this year for the PS2 and the Xbox. GamePlayMonthly has some nice screenshots of both versions that are looking mighty promising.

True Crime: Streets of NY

Activision has announced that the sequel to the popular game “True Crime: Streets of LA” is to be followed up in the Big Apple. As a matter of fact, they claim that the streets of Manhattan will be more accurate than any game ever made. To add to the realism, they will even program more Asians in Chinatown, tourists in Times Square, and more. As a resident of New York City, I hope they don’t forget to put street entertainers and people handing out flyers on busy streets. What they can leave out: rush hour traffic.

It’s thing like this that make me realize why I absolutely love having a modded Xbox. This Flickr plug-in for Xbox Media Center allows you to access all of your Flickr photos from the comfort of your living room. All you need to do is create a Flickr account, and dump your images there, and you will be able to pull them up on your Xbox over an Internet connection. Even better, you can view the images of other people as well using this interface. I love the presentation here as well, really well done.

Halo 2 Multiplayer Pack Released

The day has finally arrived when we get new multiplayer maps for our favorite online shooter – Halo 2. There are two versions available – online and retail pack. The online version includes the five new maps for $11.99 via Xbox Live – Containment, Turf, Sanctuary and Warlock are currently available for free download. The retail pack on the other hand includes all 9 maps, all the auto-updates, a bonus cinematic and a behind-the-scenes documentary. The retail version will set you back $19.99 and should be available from your favorite retailer now. As cool as these new maps are, there is one major draw back – you can only play the new maps during custom games against people that also purchased the maps. Bungie states that these new maps should start rolling out into Rumble Preview and Team Preview on July 11th. At least this gives all a chance to download the maps and get used to them before getting our ass kicked
kicking butt online. Anyone else have the maps yet?
