If you are serious about video editing, you have to go Mac… G5 all the way

Like I told you before for artistic stuff Macs are the best.  The Mac uses a different type of processor, which is why things, such as versions of linux, made for mac don’t run on PC and things for PC don’t run on the mac.

Apple will also give you a different operating system.  This is called Mac OS X (10).  The main differences for you will be how you work the computer.  For example to install most programs just requires that you drag it onto your hard drive.  To uninstall you drag it to the trash and delete it.  It really isn’t hard to use and if you need help with anything post and I’ll try to help.  The macosx.com forums are also great for help. 😊

Ok…I work in this industry and I can honestly say that most manufactures of editing software and turnkey systems are not running on Apple computers/G5’s.  The day of the Apple being an “artists” machine is 5 years old.  The most widely used and stable editing systems are running on PC’s.  Adobe, Avid, Discreet, Canopus, Sony, even Media100 all have current and future systems set on PC.  Steve Jobs has hurt himself with his business practices and these higher end editing companies are RUNNING from the Apple platform.  Don’t believe the hype!

I agree,
I do plenty of audio work that used to only be done on a Mac. It is now possible through my favorite hardware and software manufacturers to run these systems on Win XP machines.  High end PC are have been in the same category with macs in this field for some time now.
