A prototype of the new portable might be out by year-end, but mass production of the new device probably would not happen until next year, he said. Could this mobile multimedia device viably challenge the iPod?

Yeah, that claim sounds iffy to me.

What I’m curious about is whether the PSP can read flash drives. If that’s the case, it would vastly expand the capabilities of the machine.

Since it’s a Sony product it uses Memory Stick DUO media

Well, I know that, but that, alone, wouldn’t necessarily preclude the use of a flash drive in the USB port.

wow 50gb would be awsome.. to bad it wont happen.
