I saw the movie last night, and I am a faithful reader of the books as well. I did indeed feel like they skipped only some very minor parts, but overall, it adhered very well to the book, I thought. In fact, I don’t think they strayed from the plot at all. I mean, straying from the plot means that the movie went in a completely different direction, and this movie kept well until its climax. Everything was good with the plot, but yeah, they did skip some minor parts that just didn’t really have much to do with the plot anyway (like, the Dursleys weren’t even shown once! But really, what do they have to do with the return of… well, I shan’t say 😛)

I saw it.  I didn’t like it.  I like the books, the movies aren’t anything great.  Sure what they miss is not important, but it ruins the story for me.  They just go from one major event to another and don’t explain anything that happens in between.

I completely agree. I wish they would do an extended edition like the Lord of The Rings DVDs

I have been reading the books and keeping up with the movies. I think the mvoie producers and directors are keeping up with the book’s main plot lines and excluding some minor things that don’t really need to be there. But yes, the World Quidditch Cup episode was a whole chapter or two and the movie only showed it for about five minutes. It’s hard sometimes translating books to the screen. I’ll be interested to see what they do with HP: Order of the Phoenix and Half-Blood Prince.

I thought it was a really good movie, but the movies are never even nearly as good as the books. I always feel dissapointed because they leave so much stuff out, but I guess they have to.

I’m reading the latest book right now and so far it’s awesome!
