first of all, don’t jump on me for this, i do use thunderbird as my email client, but is there a free alternative to the other features of Outlook 2003 (Notes, calender, tasks, etc…) i have outlook 2003 except if there is an alternative, i would be glad to rid myself of M$ for a while.

I actually prefer Outlook 2003 to thunderbird. I find Outlook 2003 to be a very good email client with all the features I need. It is not crap like IE, and I have full control over the way my mail is read, sent and stored. Thunderbird just didn’t mesh well with me when I tried it, so I uninstalled it.

good points… i’m just an open source freak 😛

outlook keeps on bringing up weird error messages on load and certain functions… normally buggy like M$ tends to be :x

also, outlook takes ages to load on my PC… thunderbird is near instant, opens before you can 😉

Wow, really? What didn’t you like about it? It was werid to me at first, then after playing with it for a bit I was able to customize it just the way I like it.

It was fully customizable, that wasn’t the problem. I just couldn’t get used to the feel… It didn’t fit me as nicely as 2003 does. I tried to customize it to what I needed, and it didnt’ come out right. Maybe I’ll give the 1.0 version a chance, see if it grows on me…

Oh so it was the previous version. I don’t know about those. I’ve just tried 1.0 and love it. Does what it’s supposed to and does it quick.

Outlook is decent, and functional, but horribly bloated. If youre a fan of Firefox, check out Mozilla’s standalone calendar project Sunbird.

Its in its infancy, as Firefox was once, but judging by Mozillas current track record, I expect nothing but good things to come.
