The great thing about reality TV and scandals is that they are never, really, over. Frenchie Davis (Idol season 2 contestant) may be long gone from the show, but she definitely hasn’t been forgotten by fans…and she could easily become a thorn in the side of the show’s producers. Frenchie was ousted from the show when topless photos of her surfaced, events remarkably similar to Antonella Barba of the show’s current season (6). After Barba bombed on the Idol stage (getting comments from judges that her singing was “pitchy” and she picked a song that was “way too big” for her), she became a bombshell on the Internet when topless photos (taken before she ever reached the Idol audition stage) surfaced. Instead of meaning the end of her Idol career, however, it’s believed Barba’s new found Internet fame has actually helped her in the voting department - that, and the endorsement from VotefortheWorst.com.
All of it has Frenchie fans in an uproar, and the former Idol has publicly stated to the AP that she wants to start with an apology from American Idol…and see where that leads with the show. Fans in favor of Frenchie have even protested against Barba’s remaining on the show, and some civil rights activist think the whole issue is clouded with racial overtones (because Davis and Barba don’t belong to the same one).
It’s another season of Idol, and new scandals as well as old are vying for media attention. Isn’t reality fabulous?
