The Discovery Channel is known for its all-reality programming, sometimes high-brow and learned shows that strive to teach us all a little something about nature. Today, that image has changed. Discovery has admitted that some elements of the channel’s popular show Man vs. Wild were actually faked - that’s right, outright faked - and in an effort to make good on their unscripted promises, the network is now showing re-edited versions of the series. Each episode now carries a disclaimer and new voice-overs. The second season of the show is currently in production, with rumors that a third season is in the works. Will the viewers forgive Discovery for showing us a little less reality than we expected? Or will we look harder, doubt more, and change the channel rather than be fooled by other Discovery shows that might be more than what they depict? A little bad PR probably won’t be the downfall of the whole network…but the fate of Man vs. Wild is a little less certain.
