Networks compete each year for the honor of showing the public their favorite award shows. FOX just wanted the chance to tout their own stars and shows to a captive TV audience - and boy, did they make the most of it. From a smiling Seacrest to a too-long Wayne Brady bit, the network made no bones about its blatant self-promotion. And the product placement - Apple laptops and an iPhone camera angle - was almost rudely shoved in watchers’ faces. The outfits were mostly stunning, the speeches mostly funny and sincere, and the broadcast was mostly a boring failure. Just another blip in the awards season, and more proof that the whole awards show format could use some serious re-vamping.
