Nicole Richie arrived at the detention center to serve out her sentence. Arrested for DUI last December, the reality star was told to serve four days in jail, take alcohol education classes, pay a fine, and stay under probation for three years. After processing, Richie was released - less than two hours after her arrival. The Sheriff’s Department is defending this decision, saying any nonviolent female would have been released were she in Richie’s shoes. This is, don’t forget, the same Department that got into hot water for releasing Paris Hilton early. According to LA officials, this actually happens all the time, as the jails are just too overcrowded to really deal with lawbreakers. I see a problem here. I’m not sure releasing offenders is the solution…but hey, I don’t work at a jail. I guess the current system works. Sure.
