For some, the live-action Transformers movie has been twenty years in the making. Fans of the cartoon that features robotic, transformable beings will delight in the special effects depicted in the new Transformers movie. Fans of great scripts, good plot points, and interesting character development should probably pick another movie this summer - and there are plenty to choose from.

It’s tricky bringing a cartoon to life, and one featuring transforming robots is perhaps more difficult than most.  At first when I heard about a live action version, I was a little leary how it may work, but when I heard Michael Bay was involved, I knew they would spare no expense and feature amazing action sequences.

Being a fan of the original cartoon, I did have some expectations.

Overall, I think I was disappointed in the Transformers movie.  I enjoyed the action involving robots, but little else.  The problem with the movie is the story.  It’s quite weak.  Three people were involved, one of which formerly worked on Catwoman.  But the script was written by the same people responsible for ‘The Island,’ a far superior Michael Bay film.  The dialogue is almost cringe-worthy.  The characters are underdeveloped, and the human roles are written as caricatures.  Perhaps if they concentrated on the robots instead of the human story it might have worked much better.

There’s no doubt in my mind a lot of people will like the movie, and it will go on to make a fortune.  I just wish it would have had a better story.
