Well, I think I could afford it by probably spending my money in the bank that I have saved up for years and years and years, haha. Or by begging my parents! 😉 However, would I buy it? That is a tough question, but I don’t think I would. It is a gorgeous and crazy machine, don’t get me wrong, but it is quite huge for my liking of a “laptop/notebook.” I do, however, see myself buying a laptop or a notebook from HP when I do move out of the house or go out and start living on my own. HP is a fantastic company and well, their computers/notebooks/laptops are super reliable and very stunning.

I would do anything for that machine, but unfortunately, with all my birthday money saved up, i will would be thousands away from being able to get one. As with jess1ca, i also see myself buying a notebook from HP in the future. Their computers are stylish, beautiful, and Powerful. But one thing i really would like is for HP to build a Tablet PC with High-end Hardware. All tablet pc manufactures right now manufactures tablet pcs with low-end graphics cards, etc. I would really love to be able to render 3d and also play games other then just being able to ink. Does anyone else agree with me?

Great reply tsunzilla, I’ve never actually heard too much about Tablet PC’s, but are they the PC’s where you can write on them? Or is it totally something else? Haha, yes, yes, I don’t really know that much about technology but I know quite a bit about everything else. It does sound like a neat function that one can be able to ink and play games and do various other things with it.

I am actually typing this on a Tablet PC right now—they are the PCs where you can write on them.  Some of them have touchscreen too, but my model does not (the Gateway C-140X).  As far as being able to afford the HP HDX Dragon, like jess1ca said, I could buy it if I emptied a lot of my bank account, but that would be stupid because I am in the middle of college and I need that money that I have saved up over the years to get me through the next few years.  Plus, I will have to take out a lot of loans for Medical School (I guess you have to go in debt to make money…)  I probably will not purchase a laptop on my own for a long while, as this one was given to me as a present from my parents.

I would if I could but my parents expect me to go to college WITHOUT PAYING FOR ME. So I’m saving up right now, although I’m still hilariously far from $60000, andI just donated $200 the other dday to Red Cross’s SiChuan relief. So until then there’s still the PC from 3-5 years ago to use, I obviously can’t afford such luxuries 😉

Well, some tablet pcs like ones from Motion Computing do not have keyboards.  However, I have what is called a “convertible” laptop.  Basically, I can twist the screen in a counter-clockwise direction and then place it back down and it snaps into the base and effectively becomes a traditional laptop.  I could also keep it open and type or take the pen out and write on the screen, but it is a little awkward to write like that.  I definitely am writing these messages as it takes me a lot longer to write it out and then convert it to text (and correct any errors 😛)

Well, its not that I don’t like the handwriting feature, its just that it is annoying when you are using it as a replacement to a keyboard.  What I love about it though is the last two semesters I took all of my physics notes in Microsoft OneNote and so when it came time to study for an exam, I could search through my handwritten work and see diagrams and everything that I had drawn.  OneNote does a surprisingly good job at being able to recognize handwritten words!  Also, in my chemistry class we would get the powerpoints a couple days before, so during the lectures I would just write in pen on them on my laptop, and I could print the slides out with my handwritten notes on them.

Thanks for the reply BuckeyeFanatic25, now I know what a Tablet PC is! 😊 I didn’t realize that you could do so much with it and well, it will be something I will keep my eye out for. It certainly sounds like it has increased your productivity and well, I think I would love to try it out soon and experiment with it.

At this point in time, I could not justify buying this. I’d be hard pressed to try and buy something about half its cost. I’m in the process of making my way out of debt. Have you heard of Dave Ramsey? He has several programs to help people get off their Bu!!s and get out of debt. He came to town a couple weeks ago for a live event. There were around 6000 people at the show. It lasted about 5 hours. If you are someone who is serious about getting out of debt. I’d really recommend checking out his websites or try and find him on the radio.

I’m saving up for a new laptop now but If I was going to buy a HP HDX it’s going to take forever, if your going to buy a HDX it’s going to cost you $1,799.99 to $2,787.99 depending which model you get, believe me it’s going to be worth every penny of it but it will take me awhile to actually purchase one.

yeah, but it would cost even more if you bought it with these specs
youd have to buy the $2,000 model and put in all the custom pieces that hp put into it
it would definitley be worth every penny bit it would be very difficult to save up for for the average person

Wow, thanks for looking up the price ranges 34skyline, I was just going to ask because I don’t think the Dragon really is too expensive once you think about it. However, still quite pricey, haha. I think in a couple of years, we’ll see 6GB and 7GB laptops/notebooks and I’ll be saving up my money to buy those ones!

I would personally want to have a custom configuration laptop so I get none of the things I don’t want. Sure, maybe it’ll cost me a bit more, but I want to have the most optimized system HP can get me.
And jess1ca, following your logic, in a decade or two there will be 15 and 20GB RAM computers. Why can’t we wait until then or even until we’re 50 or 60 to buy ultra fast 50GB RAM computers? 😛 We just need to stay with the current trend. Things get outdated easily.

yeah they do because people are so eager to make the next big thing-we never have a chance to catch up!
I’d want to personalize mine too so don’t have to end up paying for a feature ‘I wont use

I feel the same, i think atleast some of our forum members might have enough money that can be afforded to buy this laptop presently.
